Perfect Replacement...and the Most Economical Solution to a Broken Icemaker
The ice-maker on my fridge started leaking water down the sides, making a mess. I removed it and the non-stick coating on the ice mold tray was gone in several places and coming up in several more. I think the frozen ice was sticking to the mold and not completely emptying into the ice tray, and when it filled back with water, because some ice was still in the mold, it was over-filling and spilling over. Replacing the ice mold is fairly simple, but I was surprised to find out just the ice mold was about $70. I kept seeing this complete ice-maker pop up on Amazon for $90, and after I read the reviews I just sprung for this entire unit instead of just the mold. Shipping was ridiculously fast. I ordered on Wednesday night and had the ice-maker in hand Friday afternoon. No Prime or special shipping costs, just normal shipping. Since I already had my unit out it was a simple matter to put this unit in, simply attach the bottom off the old unit, snap the end of the wiring harness into the hole, slide the new unit into the freezer, and plug in the wiring harness. Like another reviewer noted the water cup is a little taller than my old unit, but I was able to bend it up and get it into the new cup without much problem. After about 5 minutes the tines moved into place and water filled the tray, and after about an hour I had ice. It has been working perfectly since the installation. The unit I received was a original Whirlpool unit in a factory box, and I couldn't be more pleased. I know I saved several hundred dollars and a day of vacation by doing it myself.

Works like a charm
I ordered this product to replace the broken icemaker in my Kenmore elite side-by-side refrigerator freezer. It was a quick and easy install. It took less than 15 minutes to install in my freezer and started making ice within 12 hours. This product was an exact fit and works just like the original equipment. I ordered one that was listed as used but very good. It looked like it was brand new and I saved a lot of money versus ordering it from Sears. People need to realize it could take 24 to 48 hours to make the first batch of ice. Give it time after you install it. I think some people return it because it didn’t make ice right away and they think it is broken. There is a video on the order page that gives you the step by step install directions.

Worked perfectly in my Kenmore Coldspot 106.56542400
This worked perfectly in my Kenmore Coldspot 106.56542400. My original ice maker had major damage to the ice tray coating stuff which made ice get stuck. It may have had other issues too. My fridge was manufactured in 2005 and the ice maker messed up maybe a year or two ago. This is the first time I've replaced it, so not bad for about 12 years of service. The replacement looks identical to the original other than maybe the water inlet cup part is slightly taller. This just meant bending the water inlet rubber piece towards the front of the fridge when installing. I could have cut the rubber part shorter but I didn't want to mod it in any way to be sure I didn't create a new issue (like the water line freezing or something). As the very brief instruction strip indicated I did have to reuse the plastic tray piece (they called it a mount, I believe) from the old ice maker on the new ice maker. I think most replacements require this as the ice maker is generic but the mounting tray piece is specific to the fridge. This is the piece that actually slides on the rails and is held to the bottom of the ice maker with 3 screws the same size as the one that holds the ice maker in the fridge. The hardest part for me was managing the power cable and the little plastic cover that goes over it. You don't have much room to work. Thankfully the power connection isn't so rock solid that it required any major force to disconnect. Overall, I'm very happy. I'm back to my fridge making ice instead of using trays every day. There are cheaper options on Amazon for this job but I'm glad I went with an exact whirlpool replacement. I just hope this one lasts the same 11 or 12 years as the original.

Perfect direct replacement for KitchenAid!
Great replacement for KitchenAid ice maker! Excellent value for the money, simple install and solved the ice build up/jam/overflow problem. Our original ice maker had begun to jam up and overflow with ice. This stopped the while process and required the ice maker to be removed and totally defrosted and dried out. This worked, but became less and less effective. Apparently, the coating on these does wear out over time. This new ice maker was absolutely the solution! Once replaced; it has been working flawlessly.

Good as new again!
After 10 years, the icemaker in my 25 cubic ft Kenmore side by side stopped working. In the weeks before it quit, I noticed it would make a loud "knocking" sound right before it would drop a batch of ice. Fearing what Sears(or any appliance repair business) would charge to come out and fix it, I started looking around the freezer and discovered the ice maker unit is easily removed. A quick search online resulted in me finding this replacement part. I looked my model up on searsparts website and a replacement icemaker was $214 and was the SAME EXACT PART NUMBER (2198597)AS THIS ONE! So I ordered this one from Amazon and had it 2 days later. Installation took 20 min tops. If you are remotely handy, you can do this yourself! The part fit perfectly. As mentioned before, the little fill cup on the new unit is taller than the original. I was able to get it in by simply moving the little black rubber fill tube that sticks down from the top of freezer out of the way long enough to get it in. It's rubber so it will bend, however, considering it was 10 years old and has been in a 0 degree environment all that time, I tried to minimize the bending of it. Also, snapping the electrical connector together was a little tough, but it went without forcing it. Once it was all back together I plugged the unit back in and turned on the acceler-ice feature(it basically sets the freezer to it's coldest setting for 24 hours) and within an hour it was dropping ice! I dumped the first few batches and now I have cubed and crushed ice again! If you have a 25 or 27 cubic ft side by side made by Whirlpool(if it's a Kenmore the first 3 digits of the model number will be 106.) that has the ice bin in the door, this part should work. Also there is a youtube video that is very helpful.

OEM Replacement Ice Maker for my Whirl Pool Conquest Side by Side item 2198597
My original ice maker stopped making ice. I performed the normal checks like first off checking to see if water (water valves also) was being delivered, and the additional checks for sensors functioning, power, motor working, etc. I diagnosed a few parts that may have been the culprit, but buying parts individually would cost much more. I also checked none OEM replacements at a lesser cost that probably would have worked fine. However, I decided to pay the extra money for the OEM ice maker, and I am very happy with my decision. The unit was an exact match and the performance did not disappoint. I expect it to last for years to come and if needed could probably use parts from the old OEM unit. Also, I selected standard shipping but the seller shipped this product very quickly; humorously they must have had sympathy that I needed ice immediately. I would recommend this product to others. (my standard note: When I rate a product I impart as much clarity and actual personal experience of the product as possible to hopefully assist others. I do not use or allude to for the money; and more than likely neither will the manufacturer if they expect to sell a product. If I pay $15 for a product selling in the market versus $500 for an original; I expect the same performance regardless of price savings. Making and selling a product at a lower costs does not equate to cheap. Less cost should only mean that a competitor has learned to do the same or better at a lower cost.)

Whirlpool 2198597 OEM Icemaker
The icemaker arrived damage free in excellent packaging. I had reviewed online videos prior to arrival so, I was fully prepared for the installation. Every step of removal and replacement went exactly as demonstrated in the video I referenced. I had the new icemeaker swapped out in less than 30 minutes. I could have done it faster but I took time to clean all parts prior to installing. After I turned on the new icemaker, it took two hours for the freezer temperature to return to the operational range (5 degrees to 10 degrees above zero). The first batch of ice dumped and cycling between batches ran 45 minutes and the bin was full in under 12 hours from empty. It has been installed now for 3.5 weeks and has not skipped a beat. This install and trouble free replacement is due to purchasing the original equipment part; quality is same as the icemaker that came with the refrigerator. Cheaper units were available but for my money I want OEM parts...I expect this will last the same five years as we got from the original I highly recommend this OEM icemaker for ease of installation and expectation of longevity. And, take the time to view online videos prior to tackling the swap. Be patient, observe the disassembly carefully and it will go back together properly and you will be amazed how easy it is to do it RIGHT and save some serious cash.

Great Stocking Stuffer!
Seriously, if your stocking looks like a refrigerator with a broken ice maker. I have a Kenmore Elite that quit making ice. YouTube has lots of videos on how to troubleshoot and replace one, and it's relatively simple for any DIY capable person. Only tool needed was a 1/4 inch nut driver, but I also used a swivel with a nut driver handle and 1/4 inch socket so I could reach the screws a bit better. It took about 20 minutes to install, and that's taking my time and reviewing the video again; probably more caution than is needed. Within a hour, we had ice. Factory settings for the volume of water going into the ice tray was good. I knew to check that from the videos, and once it is working, that is probably the only other thing to check. I picked this one because it is the brand name. Other less expensive versions were available, and I debated whether to save a few buck because they should be pretty basic, but I decided not to risk it with an off-brand. I'm satisfied now. The off-brand might work fine, but I feel confident in this purchase and hope to get another 12 years like I did from the original. If I'd put in an off-brand, how many years would be satisfying for saving the $20 or $30?

Fits My KitchenAid Fridge Perfectly
Good quality, looks, fits and works just like the original. My repair many wanted three times the cost to replace the ice maker in our kitchenaid fridge. I ordered this Ice Make from Amazon for less than 1/2 the money and found videos on youtube on how to remove the old ice maker and install the new one. Removal and installation was easy and took about 20 minutes in total. Highly Recommend!

Simple installation
Although it took a month to be delivered, the Whirlpool ice maker was extremely easy to install and began making ice in less than an hour. I considered buying the much cheaper non-OEM versions but decided it wasn't worth it for a few dollars of savings.
