The Nicholson-21839N Crescent Mill Hand File is a 10-inch, American pattern file designed for efficient sharpening and deburring. Its rectangular shape and single-cut teeth make it ideal for non-precision material removal, while the tapered width allows for easy access into grooves. With square edges for filing sharp corners and compatibility with an optional handle, this tool is a must-have for any professional or DIY enthusiast.

A Bastard for all Seasons
No pun intended, but this is a really good bastard file. My main use for it is to sharpen my 30" lawnmower blades. I used it for the first time today and it worked perfectly. It is a much better file than the one it replaced, which was an el cheapo made in India. Not to knock the Indian file, as it worked for many years, but this one is way better. 10-10-2012: Now that I've had this bastard for a while, I can honestly report that it files (sharpens) as well as it did when new. It's just a good example of getting what you pay for -- quality steel and quality workmanship. A few extra bucks was well spent.

appears to be good quality
This replacement file for general use in my shop APPEARS to be of the same quality and precision of machining that I associate with the Nicholson brand. Time will tell how well it resists wear with proper use on steel alloys that do not exceed the file's hardness. I admit that I gradually destroy any metal file over a period of years by trying to file various steels that I do not know in advance are harder than the file. I just accept that as part of the normal consequence of general shop use which includes filing mystery alloys. I think of metal files as semi-expendable items in my shop armamentarium.

It’s a file, what else can I say
It’s a file. When you review a file and say it’s anything except a file, It better be because you broke it, chipped it, bent it, or didn’t get the right size bc it’s mislabeled. Files are created equal, much like all men and women, difference is, some just last longer than others, this is bc some are harder, or tempered better than others.

Very good file, great price
No complaints with this. I've used it for lots of things, from shaping wood projects to filing down cabinet scrapers before burnishing. Very good quality and even better price.

the name says it all
Nicholson is the quality file standard. The best quality and durability files on the planet I have found thus far. I have tried cheaper files, but I have learned that, at least in files, you definately get what you pay for. I use this for all sorts of metal manipulation, but mostly to touch of my chainsaw chain cutting depth guages as the chains wear. Do not go cheap on your files. The cheaper ones are junk. Pay a little extra for this baby you will be glad you did. Besides the amazon price for these are very good.

A hand tool that works better than a power tool
I keep two lawn mower blades; one on and one ready. Lawn mower blades really get beat up, so I used a sharpening stone on my power drill which took a lot of work for minimal results. Then I spotted this on ,Amazon, for a small investment I figured it was worth a try. Wow what a return on investment. This tool with little effort chewed through the dulled steel and left me with a sharp edge on my lawn mower blade, much sharper than I ever could with my power sharpening stone. With a lawn mower blade you don't want a fine edge, but this comes pretty close.
