Great performance at a low price!
I was looking for a small portable Compact Flash (CF) and SDHC card reader for my netbook and came across this Transcend branded card reader. It is quite small and portable, uses a standard mini-usb cable which is easily replaced if the included cord is lost, and its performance is excellent. I tested this card reader against the built-in USB 2.0 CF card reader in my Dell flat panel monitor, and the Transcend reader tests out at almost twice the read speed of the Dell reader that I have been using up to this point. My guess is write speed is similarly fast, but I didn't test that as I normally only write to these cards in my camera. My only criticism and it is a struggle to even come up with this, is that the 24" USB cable provided with the reader is white and so it looks a bit odd when plugged into the black card reader. But that is only an aesthetic criticism which in the end doesn't really count.I was very surprised and pleased with the performance of this item as it far exceeded my expectations, and I would be shocked if it could be substantially outperformed by other readers at any price! The construction is very nice, it is small so it doesn't take up much room when travelling, and is a great item for a very low price. Buy one today ... I am going to buy another in fact so that I have a spare in my portable bag.

Small, sweet, and fast.
I bought this to replace a cheap generic SD reader that could not handle the newer card formats. This device is very compact, lightweight, and has a nice-looking glossy finish. (It's glossy plastic, so the finish won't last long if you let it kick around in the bottom of your laptop bag; it's going to need a protective bag of some sort.) It's too lightweight for its own good, actually, and flops around at the end of its USB cord unless you tack it down with something. I used an inch of Velcro tape to stick it to the underside of my monitor, and it's very convenient in that location.Mine came with a white USB cable, which is a bit odd since I got the black unit. Not an issue for me, as it's tucked away behind my hardware. The electrons in the wires don't care, but fashion-conscious types might be put off.Performance is great, as far as I'm concerned. Stick in an SDHC card (SanDisk "Ultra II"), and it appears as a drive volume on my Mac's desktop within a couple of seconds. Select five 490K jpeg files, drag them to a folder on the Mac's hard drive, and they're copied in less than a second. Copying a 3.9 GB video file to the Mac took 1 min 50 sec. Hard-core photographers with enormous RAW image files might want more, but for the average civilian, this gadget is perfect.

Nice Little Product
I have a compact flash based camera and lost the ability to read the CF card into my computer after upgrading to a Windows 7 based Asus laptop. My old CF card reader did not install on the W7 machine and I could not find any W7 drivers for it. Since I plan to upgrade my camera soon, I did not want to spend a lot of cash on a compact flash reader that I would not need much longer. The reviews seemed to indicate tnat this unit is a good combination of price and quality and I have found that to be true. It works great. Windows 7 installed it quickly (no external drivers required) and I have used it for both Compact Flash and SD Flash cards. The file transfers go pretty quick but that is probably more a function of my fast laptop than the card reader. The USB cable that comes with it is about two and a half feet long which is perfect for my needs. Not to long. not too short. All in all, I'm quite satisfied with it.

Works Great
This replaced an older CF SD card reader I had and it works great. It transfers photos fairly quickly - but expectation for 'quick' is probably different for everyone. I certainly find it functions very efficiently. I have only used the Compact Flash SD drive and it worked perfectly the first time I used it. It is plug and play. It comes with a USB cord. I plugged into my USB drive and it instantly recognized it and asked me if I wanted to import the photos. It's compact size is great and fits easily in my camera bag. It has a shiny, black surface which makes it look sharp even though it's just me who sees it :) Once you open the package the item comes with an easily removable, protective film across the top to protect the shiny surface which I thought was great packaging. Would definitely recommend to others. Looks and works like a high quality product.

Great card reader
After buying 2 random cheap card readers at Walmart before I came here for this one, I had tons of problems with them staying connected. I have a Macbook Pro and you have to eject everything before you disconnect it, but every card reader I seemed to buy was just constantly randomly losing connection. I thought it was an issue with my USB ports and took my computer to Apple for repair. They tested the ports and said everything was fine. I got this card reader off here after reading the reviews and decided to give it a shot. I have never had any problems with it and it has worked great!I also really like that the cards just click into it. I had another CF reader that worked okay but it had prongs in it and they were constantly getting bent and hard to bend back. With this reader you don't have that problem! It has been a few years since I got it though and it now has a short in the cord, so it will randomly disconnect if i hit it the wrong way or move it while it's connected. I am buying another one though because other than that, it has worked great for me. I am a photographer and take a LOT of pictures so it gets a great amount of use. I can't expect any card reader to last longer than a few years with the amount of use I put into it. For that, I would highly recommend it.
