Small, light, sharp
For the money there's nothing to complain about! Just a solid little hatchet.

This is amazing, just buy it to split
This axe is a great splitter for medium to small logs. 6-12” it’s not tree felling axe it’s profiled really only to split and comes fairly dull 5 minutes with a puck and it was as sharp as I needed for chopper. The handle feel and control is great, good for flick chopping. The one complaint I have is pictured the injection mold sprew is right where you run your on the neck pictured me pointing at it. I had to cut it flush and smooth with a sharp knife and now it’s left a bung hole there. But it’s only really cosmetic and this thing was inexpensive and performs way better than I had expected. It’s a perfect campfire wood splitter or young boys splitter, not going to handle big oak rounds well but would still get the job done going around outside.

Looks good, feels good, will it work?
I purchased the ARES 45004 – 14-Inch Camping Hatchet and received it yesterday. I have scoped it out and it looks durable. I remember having a family hatchet many years ago. I loved it and somewhere in our moves, it was lost to me. I recently bought an axe and thought it would be nice to have a hatchet to go along with it. This looked like the best buy for the money. I have it out and a bit puzzled on how to get the hatchet protector cover off without breaking it. It looks like there is a small orange tab on the bottom of a thumb slide. I am thinking that I remove that small tag and I am in business. Silly question perhaps. Can anyone assist me on this? Nothing in/on the package states how to take this off. I should have gone on to be an Eagle Scout I guess. Thanks.

Great axe!
New to using a splitting axe. Wanted to give wood splitting a try and boy did this axe perform nicely. Came kid protected with a edge guard. Very sharp edge for splitting and after 15 minutes of cutting the edge held. I’m no expert at axes but I actually enjoyed chopping wood with this axe. Nice weight distribution. Thinking about buying their hatchet. Good product Ares. Keep it up.

Would buy again.
Excellent balance, handle is wide so not small as fiskars. Would definitely buy again. Excellent to work on block at inches below elbow. Nice swing, heavy enough to take care of serious business. Very happy.but if you have small hand, may take while to get used to large diameter of handle. Also it is a hefty size 18 inches.

A decent hatchet for camping but could be better.
I used this hatchet on a recent camping trip. It does pretty well for the cost/size at splitting logs; in almost all cases I had to use another log to whack the hatchet to get it to really split though. Another friend had a classic wood handled hatchet that was heavier but far more efficient at splitting the logs. This hatchet will certainly do, but I will probably get a more robust one for future trips and keep this for a spare.

Super cool little hatchet
I don't know why some people are complaining about the handle, this thing is super cool. The handle is lightweight so that it has more forward weight on the head which is perfect. It's durable.
