Finally, a Full-Face Diving Mask That Doesn’t Feel Like You’re Breathing Through a Straw
I’ve tried a few full-face snorkel masks in the past and always ended up feeling claustrophobic or like I was getting half a breath. This one from SMACO is a totally different story. First of all, the breathing system actually works—you inhale and exhale through separate channels, so you’re not just recycling stale air. It feels way more natural and relaxed, even when you’re under for a while. The fit is super secure without being uncomfortable. I love that it has a 5-point adjustable strap system, which actually helps it mold to your face better. Once it’s on, it doesn’t budge—even when you’re moving around a lot—but taking it off is easy with the quick release tabs (no panicked yanking at your head, thank you). The panoramic view is no joke. You really do get that full 180° vision, and it’s crystal clear. I paired it with the S400 tank and it worked seamlessly—felt like I had the freedom to just explore without worrying about water sneaking in or constantly fogging up. Plus, the camera mount is a fun bonus if you like recording your dives or snorkeling trips. And the silicone? Totally soft, no weird smell, and no irritation.Honestly, it feels like they finally made a full-face mask that’s built for actual use, not just vacation photos.

Comfortable & easy to use
I received this mask on Aug. 23, 2022 and used it for the first time today, Aug. 25. This mask is great.I am not a certified scuba diver and while I took a scuba course about thirty years ago it was just an introductory course in a pool. I got interested in scuba diving last year and purchased the 2L DCCMS kit with regulator, mask and vest (the kit is like the 2L SMACO kit). I also bought an inexpensive fin, mask, snorkel kit. My great diving adventure was going to be in my five foot deep 20x40 inground pool so I could relearn the basics of diving and diving safety before I ventured out into a lake (I am sure any professional divers or scuba instructors are choking and shaking their heads while reading this). In any case, while I know I should get certified I do not like going anywhere and it would be a long distance for me to go to classes. Not a great excuse but it is the only one I've got.Anyway, I practice in my pool, watch videos from instructors and other professionals and read all I can about diving and diving safety. In my pool I create minor emergencies like knocking my mask off, knocking the regulator out of my mouth, emptying a full mask of water and getting caught on my pool cleaner hose. Even in a pool losing your regulator is a little concerning, as is getting stuck on a pool cleaner hose. Unfortunately I cannot practice ascending very easily since the pool is so shallow. So, back to the FFM. It is extremely comfortable and very easy to put on and remove when you want to remove it (it would be very hard to knock the mask off of your face) and not having to bite down on a regulator mouthpiece is a pleasure. Breathing through your mouth and nose is wonderful and the mask does not fog up. You do not even feel the regulator attached to it.The mask has what they call an "intake and exhaust valve" that lets you breath surface air and is used when you are above the water so you don't consume tank air. It works. I tested the safety of the valve to see what would happen if you left it open and went under water and did not notice any water intrusion into the mask but did notice a very slight spray or tiny water droplet feeling on my cheek when I started breathing through the regulator. The "intake and exhaust valve" cannot be totally unscrewed accidently (unless maybe you purposely force it) and it was easy to close while under water. The mask also has a automatic water removal valve (called a "lower drain valve") at the very bottom which will let any water that got in the mask out when you breath. The mask was water tight on my face, no leakage whatsoever.I believe I used a little more air then usual with this FFM.I think even pros or instructors who want to try a FFM before spending the really big bucks on the name brands would be happy with this mask. For anyone who wants to know, I am 77 years old, about 5'7, weigh around 132 lbs. and am in pretty good physical condition. I fill my tanks (a 50 cu.ft. and a 2L) with a Tuxing TXEDMO42 high pressure compressor. It has two built-in filters and I have added a molecular sieve air intake filter and another activated charcoal filter. It fills the 50cu.ft. in about 50 minutes or so and the 2L in 12-15 minutes. It works very well.

Excellent FFM for barely more than the price of an OTS ambient breathing valve.
I have dove nearly every FFM on the market released over the last 30 years. None are perfect but most are fairly decent. However, the cost factor of most masks is fairly ridiculous to say the least. As a comparison, I see the design and quality as somewhere of a blend between the old Technisub FFM and the Mantis FFM. The hard plastic bridge above the nasal cavity which separates the lenses also helps protect the lenses from being so easily scratched as commonly happens with most competitor's single piece visors.Field of vision is much like that of a conventional mask, or an OTS Spectrum or Guardian and the Scubapro FFM (but feels much more comfortable than the Scubapro). The Ocean Reef FFMs and Interspiro Divator do offer a wider field of view to the sides, but a minor turn of your head will easily suffice when you wish to look more to the side. The Ethylene Propylene Diene Monomer finish feels strong, supple and comfortable and I've gotten a perfect seal every time I've used this mask. An added bonus to this mask is that the side exhaust valve can be removed to function as a comms port and accommodates my OTS buddy phones from both my Spectrum and Guardian masks only. The other side of the mask's face has a built in intake and exhaust valve (ABV). After paying $450 for my OTS Spectrum masks, I had to pay an additional $135 for the ambient breathing valves. Again, this entire mask only costs $15 more than the optional OTS ABV for my Spectrum and has a built in ABV which works well. No mask is perfect and we can nitpick away at all their idiosyncrasies.... but at the end of the day for the quality of build at this price point, this is by far the best bang for the buck I've ever seen released to the FFM market. Try it a few times and give yourself a chance to become accustomed to it. You won't regret it and you'll save yourself a ton of money.

Good Mask
Seals well. Very durable, tight fit. Doesn't cause skin irritation. Able to connect a tank. Great value

No good
I bought this mask hoping it was good because of the reviews it received. Upon using it for the first time it leaked air from the side of the mask. What should have been a 45 minute dive only lasted 22 minutes because of the leaking. Returns had to be done within 7 days and I didn’t get a chance to use it for 8 days so I am stuck with it. Save your money and buy a better mask.
