on the input side, you will be working with 12v dc at maximum. If a short circuit develops there you will burn out your power supply. The hazard is similar to those associated with a phone charger. If in any way you connect the output leads of the unit, you will immediately burn out the unit. Note that the unit is not a transformer, It does not pass a current. If it is put into a condition where is must pass current, it will immediately burn. out. Don't touch the output leads, 15kv dc static field. A danger for those with a pacemaker. You will get a heck of a shock but the current is minimal but enough to immediately burn the unit out. Don't try to measure output voltage or current. You will immediately burn the unit out. Test it by using it to add static grass. If the grass stands up, it is working.

Q: What size wire can I use to extend these leads they are not long enough?

The wire should be the same size or larger than the one to which you are connecting.
