Are these the chewy kind

No, these are not the chewy kind. I buy them to make ice cream. You dissolve them in milk (it takes 2 to 3 days) then use the milk in a recipe normally used for vanilla ice cream. I learned this from a friend many years ago.

They are a cinnamony and hard at first, but soften as they are in your mouth then you can bite on when soft, but not really 'chewy' like gum.

Are there actually 12 bags/boxes of 4.5 ounces each?

My orders have indeed been 12 boxes but they are 5.5 ounces each, not 4.5.
