This chicory is a good substitute for coffee.
If you love your caffeine like I used to, and you need to cut out the caffeine, this will be a really good substitute for the desire for caffeine especially in the morning. I have been drinking this for at least a year and a half. It runs about $10 for a pound but you use very little I use about only one tablespoon, one heaping tablespoon and that makes two huge cuts of coffee in my little percolator. I usually have some kind of creamer and I like some sugar and it tastes wonderful it has a wonderful taste and will help to satisfy you if you're trying to get off of caffeine. That was my problem that's why I started drinking this and I am pretty much caffeine free. I bought one for a friend of mine cuz she was getting a release sore stomach with caffeine and she tried it but she said it was too strong. I don't think she made it right I think she put too much grounds in there. You don't need many grounds that is. Anyway for myself I love it and I highly recommend it.

If Coffee and Butterscotch had a baby...
If Coffee and Butterscotch had a baby, it would be this amazing stuff here. It is SOOOOO flavorful. Everyone stating how strong it is - they are 100% accurate lol. Definitely only need a little because it goes a long way. This is FAR less bitter than coffee in general, unless you're used to the milder roasts like breakfast blends - it's similar to those really. A little does go a long way though and although not bitter so much (at least not the bag I received), it is very, VERY strong, but also very smooth. I do add sugar and cream or milk just like I would coffee, so I can't say how it tastes black. But it's just so flipping delicious. If you're looking for a caffeine-free version of a very coffee-like drink, this is absolutely for you.

Great, but mildly sweet
I agree with the reviews that say if you are hoping for the flavor of unsweetened black coffee, you’ll be a little disappointed. It’s good, but it’s got a hint of creamy sweetness to it that I normally don’t care for. Usually I drink my coffee dark and black with no flavors or sweeteners of any kind. If you add sweetener or cream, you probably won’t need to adjust it for the chicory-it’s not that strong that you’d probably worry about it being too sweet or too creamy if you added what you normally do.

Not Coffee But…
Upon opening the package I was confronted with the smell of bird seed. While brewing, it smelled very earthy, nothing like coffee. Tasting it black, following the directions, it was very strong and had a very nutty, earthy, bitter taste. With that said there was an appeal to it as I am familiar with strong black coffee, though it is not my go to. I decided to water it down some and found that it really helped to mellow the flavor. I was then able to add coffee creamer and found that over all the taste was similar to my morning coffee with creamer. I found that it felt like I was drinking coffee. There certainly are the coffee notes that I am missing in the flavor but considering how it started with the smell of birdseed I was pleasantly surprised by how it ended up. This may be my new go to so I can enjoy the “feel” of drinking coffee without the negative effects of the caffeine and acidity.

Delicious Caffeine-free Coffee Replacement
I was tired of the heartburn I'd always get after drinking decaf coffee (which still has a small amount of caffeine). I switched to this, and brew it in the Keurig just like I would coffee. Be aware that this is slightly stronger, and you need to reduce the amount you put in the reusable K-cup 'pod' to keep it from being very strong (though to make an "iced chicory" I fill the 'pod' and dilute the super-strong brew with ice and cold water to taste. This stuff is delicious!

Not the Same as Coffee, but Still Tasty
If you love black, unsweetened coffee and you try to drink this the same way, you'll be very disappointed. But, it makes a delicious sweet, creamy, hot drink. A little nutty undertone, with a malasass-like top note. I use non-dairy creamer and no calorie sweetener in it and it tastes really good that way. And it's really good for your gut health. No acid reflux, heartburn or belching.I do still drink coffee occasionally, but I chose a dark roast instant which has less acid in it due to the processing involved, and it has the very same health benefits.

Wow, just wow
French Press? Never heard of this. Went on You Tube and watched some videos. Decided to get one, specially to use with the Chicory root, hoping I wouldn't be disappointed. Upon opening the bag , I was instantly met with the pleasant aroma of the Roasted French Chicory, which, to me was like a slight hint of chocolate and freshsmoked woods. The grinds were fine, which I thought, I've made a mistake and they won't work in my French coffee maker. Thought I would have to separately strain the coffee so that i wouldn't be having the grounds in my mouth. The first time I made it was with 3 scoops ( they include a scoop with your purchase). It was too strong for my liking, but still a good taste. The second time I made it with just one scoop. Let it sit for 5 minutes before pushing the plunger down. Was surprised that there were no (absolutelynone) grounds in my cup. Added 2 tablespoons of organic coconut milk and some vanilla coffee creamer to this, and the taste was out of this world. Just wish I never waited so long to try it. Will definitely be buying more , I'm hooked.
