Kobalt 1/2-in 24-Volt Max-Volt Lithium Ion (Li-ion) Variable Speed Brushless Cordless Hammer Drill Bare Tool Only (Tool Only, Model #kdd524b-03)

This seems to be a great drill for general use around the house. You will need to have the compatible Kobalt battery which is not included and is a bit pricey. I already have 3 garden tools that use Kobalt battery packs, so this seemed like the logical choice when my old drill died. It's a bit on the heavy side, like all cordless drills. It uses standard drill bits (not included).

I've used the drill several times and it worked great. I like Kobalt tools because of being able to use the same battery on all of their tools. However, in this case, the drill developed a bad "grinding" noise while using. Research indicates bad gear box or bearings. I've tried contacting Kobalt support by email by the email was returned as undeliverable. I have no idea what caused that yet. Occasionally, a defective tool can be purchased. This was my occasion. This will not stop me from buy or recommending Kobalt tools.

I never write reviews, but this thing is an exceptional product. I've had this drill for over 5 years, have used it on probably over 100 separate occasions for various projects, and I have never charged it. Seriously, not once. It's insane, but the thing is still going strong. It almost makes me wonder if its battery is some advanced alien technology. It's super portable and strong and has tons of settings. And its battery NEVER DIES. So yeah that's my first ever product review. Good job Kobalt!

By far the worst drill ever! Not a hammer drill as described and even as a regular drill it does not work properly. Very weak peace of crap waste of money.

Replaced my 4 yr old one that was overheating while drilling metal. New one is great. 4 yr opd batteries still going strong

It started off as the perfect tool. At this point reliability is an issue. It basically works when it wants to and has torque problems. The price point was great which drew me in. Now it has a flashing light that means the motor is failing. Sure it’s been less than 6 months of ownership but this is a problem. Maybe I caught a bad unit. My Kobalt impact driver is 2 years old and still runs flawlessly. I hope we can get this resolved and I can post a more positive review. I also use the Kobalt Trimmer/Leaf Blower combo. The battery life is awesome being that all these tools use the same battery. Come on Kobalt don’t let this one tool ruin your reviews.

Just used it today. Made it into concrete easily. Great product.
