Failed after 9 months.
The title says it all. Worked flawlessly for 9 months (had it mated with a Tivo series 3), and then failed. The Tivo drive tests say that it is suffering from read errors. The drive warranty is only one year. That says a lot about the product, but fair enough. So, I go to the Western Digital support site and enter the serial number. It says the drive was manufactured in 2006 and I need to provide a purchase receipt to get warranty coverage. A hassle, but again, fair enough. So, I find my Amazon receipt online, save as PDF, upload to Western Digital support site and... nothing. No response except an email saying they have received my message. That was 10 days ago. I again send an email. Again, no response. Perhaps they are trying to wait out the warranty. Anyway, given the hassle, I can't recommend this drive.

NOT FOR TIVO
Decent hard drive,a little slow with USB. Originally purchased for TIVO HD expansion, the model number looks the same but it is not supported by Tivo. Do not try to link with your DVR, but it does make a good Time Machine back-up for my Mac.

Western Digital External HD
WD external HD arrived and was in good condition worked well, but came without an E-Sata cable. I don't know why WD would ship the device without this necessary cable to hook up to a TIVO. For pete's sake, charge a few $ more, but include all the cables.

Works Just Fine
Works as advertised. I haven't been able to get an eSATA cable to try that out yet tho. The only quirk I've had with it is that it will turn itself on automatically when I boot up my computer and with Windows Vista, it hangs before getting to the Windows loading screen. It did not do this on my XP machine. Not sure why it does that, but it's not that big of a deal, and I hope when I switch to eSATA, it will fix that as well.

eSATA on Vista 32-bit
Worked beautifully. NOTE: you can't install the card, and then connect the drive.I bought the seperate SIIG card, and SIIG cable. (This drive only comes with a USB 2.0 cable). You have to have everything installed and connected, then fire up your computer, and it needs to be connected to the internet. Vista downloads and installs the drivers automatically. It works awesome! If you don't have internet access on your box, you can get the driver files from the SIIG website.SOOOO FAST! Puts FW800 and other interfaces to shame.(speed only as fast as the slowest drive in your configuration, of course. Example: if you are copying a file from an internal 1.5Gb/s SATA drive to this drive, it is only as fast as the 1.5...)enjoy
