Easy to use and extremely effective
I have tried several methods to control moles; used bait/poison in the run and the hoop style of traps. The bait did not seem to work well, and the hoop style of traps were difficult to use/set. These traps worked great. I have a large yard and had several moles, the first day of use I was able to get rid of two moles, and the next day two more. Extremely easy to use. I want to highlight that I have an irrigation system and have been keeping my yard green, which means that the soil is soft. I do not know how well these will work in extremely dry soil, but if you make sure to rock the trap after installing it, it should be find. Like several others, I want thank Casey, who posted an excellent review/instructions on April 26, 2016. From CASEY: FINALLY - a mole trap that WORKS! First off I'm going to say that yes I had trouble at first catching moles with this trap - but I didn't give up - I just had to figure out what I was doing wrong. Once I figured it out it's been dead moles ever since. I've trapped 13 moles in the last two months out of my yard using this trap - I'm ecstatic because my yard was getting over-run with stupid moles. People say I'm crazy and to just leave the moles alone - this is nonsense - the only good mole is a dead mole! Let me tell you how to use this trap: 1. First off you have to know your enemy. Moles are stupid - they only know how to do a few things - Dig and/or repair tunnels and smell stuff - they have a REALLY good sense of smell! Also - they get flat out irate when you mess up their tunnels. When they smell/feel outside air coming into their little tunnel complex they will almost immediately go in search of where that air is coming from and fix the problem. Again - they are really good at fixing their tunnels - use this info to your advantage! 2. NEVER touch this trap with your bare hands! Remember how moles can smell really good? Well if they smell you (or any other weird smell) on this trap they will simply tunnel around it - which will infuriate you. What works for me is I leave the trap outside and only handle it with gloves on. Also - keep a large screwdriver or some other implement to dig with handy that is free of human scent. 3. Check the nuts on the side of the trap to make sure they are not too tight. Mine were way too tight and it took entirely too much force to spring the trap closed. I loosened the nuts probably close to a full turn if not more on both sides. After I did that it was a lot better. This trap is not supposed to have a "hair trigger" otherwise it would go off too easily. So don't wear yourself out trying to make it have a hair trigger. Setting the Trap: First off you need to roll your yard flat and wait a little while to see where the active moles are at. It won't take long - 24 hours max. When you find tunnels - look for nice straight(ish) tunnels - these are their "main corridors" you could say. Don't bother messing around with the tunnels that are going in all different directions or in circles- they may never return to these tunnels - again - only look for nice straight runs to set your trap. When you find a good place to set the trap do this exactly: 1. Firmly step on about a foot long section of the tunnel and smash it down flat 2. Push the trap into the ground on the spot you just smashed down. 3. Step on the trap to open the jaws apart. 4. While your foot is still on the trap - "rock" it back and forth real good to open up the earth so the jaws don't get bound up - you want the jaws to snap shut really fast. Also put your full weight on the trap to really push it down tight to the ground - you want the trigger pad firmly on top of the ground. 5. About a foot on both sides of the trap on a part of the tunnel that you have NOT smashed down - use the screwdriver to open up a good sized hole...big enough to stick a golf ball in - you want PLENTY of outside air to get into the tunnel! 6. Go get a beer and wait - sometimes within 30 mins you will see the trap spring. Then simply go look at the holes you made - one of them will be fixed - the other will not be. He's dead inside the trap on the side where it got fixed - and that's the last thing he ever did. Go throw him out and re-roll the yard and repeat until you are mole free. So far my record is 4 moles in 24 hours - 3 of those were inside of 3 hours of each other. Also - moles will come and take up residence where you've already killed several before so beware of that. Don't think that just cause you got one that you can ignore that area of your yard for awhile - another one will set up shop sometimes within days. It took me a long time to win back my yard. Follow these instructions and be vigilant and you will win the war. Update - August 2017 - Many many dead moles later the trap is still working great. I think I've decimated the entire mole population in this area. My neighbors don't have any moles now either. Thumbs up still! One word of advise..make sure that you push straight down on the trap when you push it into the ground. If you get it sideways at all it could bend things and then the trap won't work correctly so keep this in mind.

Who you gonna call...Molebusters!
What can I say. I had tried numerous traps, poisons, deterrents, etc. and nothing had gotten rid of those underground pests. A friend suggested these, and I was very skeptical based on past experience. Bought 4 to cover 2 acres of overly damaged lawn. I have been moving them every 24-48 hours based on observation and triggering. As of two weeks of deploying these, I have had 7 trigger events and caught 5 moles. That is WAY better than anything I have used in the past. Hopefully getting down to few if any moles left. I tend to rock them into the ground as suggested, then step to set, then lift slightly to make them even with the ground surface. Then I pack down the run on each side of the trap to entice them to open it back up. So far, these have been great for me. 5/28/24 - Update...Still the best mole eliminator I have found. I am up to 22 moles trapped in less than 8 months of actual use. So far only 3 misfires and I think 2 of those were just where I did not have it set correctly. It is nice not to have so many runs to mow down now when cutting grass. I have suggested these to friends and family and all seem to be surprised at how simple they are to use and how well they work. Now if I could just find something like this for my groundhog infestation... 1/15/25 - I am back again because this is simply one of the best products I have ever used! I have had these in the ground on my 2 acre "estate"... :) for 13 months (because I cannot use them when the ground is frozen). In that time, I have managed to catch 36 moles. Yes, that's right...36 moles in just over a year's worth of use. I am not doubting anyone else's recommendations on these, but I set them bare-handed, moving them from run to run (if I don't snag a mole within 48 hours) and have had no issues with smell concerns. Maybe my moles are so aggressive they don't care? Regardless, if you follow almost anyone's instructions on here, you will (WILL) catch moles. My only aggravation now, is that 36 moles later, I still see runs as soon as the ground thaws, but it freezes back too fast to use these. I guess spring will begin another tally. Happy Mole Catching!!! UPDATE!!! 6/19/2025... Just caught my 20th mole of 2025 today. These traps are amazing... Since August 2023 when I first received mine, I have had them deployed for a total of 13 months (pulled them in the colder months when ground frozen and no activity). On my 2 acres, I am now up to a total of 51 moles!!! I have only had 3 "missfires" (tripped with no mole) in that time. I am thinking those may have been user error, since the trap rate is phenomenal. I now have neighbors, friends, family, etc...asking if I can start trapping for them, but since I am busy keeping up with my own issues, I don't have time. "Build a better mousetrap?" If there is a better mole trap out there, someone would have to prove it to me!!!!

It Works! Take time to read tips from others.
I've tried many tactics to get rid of moles destroying my yard but I've never had any success until buying this trap. It works and it is extremely well made. However, I do not think I would have liked this product or had success with it if I had not followed another reviewers tips. Certain steps need to be taken in order to keep the moles from tunneling around the trap and certain steps to be taken to get the trap properly set into hard ground. I am grateful Casey took the time to post the steps and tips. I'll copy and paste them below. Tips from Casey: FINALLY - a mole trap that WORKS! Best money I've spent over the last three years om mole eradication
I read this review from another reviewer and it was the reason I bought this trap. Five settings and five moles caught. I hope he don't mind that I am re-posting his review and instructions. Old school
Killed a couple moles with them. Easy to set. However they sometimes go off prematurely.

4 HOURS! NO MORE MOLE! After trying everything else!
UPDATE 12/4/19 Continued success with these traps. Usually 4-8 hours. Longest 24 hours. 7-8 moles down now. Follow the instructions below and moles are gone. After spending over $150 two years in a row on a trapper service taking months using a similar trap, I bought these traps, two of them, and in four hours no more mole. I copy and pasted his review below because it was spot on and worked like a charm. I wasted money on gummies and poison and solar vibrating sound machines and all kinds of garbage. One broken pen but the other one works
Ordered 2 one was broken so 1 is effective

Very effective
These things really work! Plus, they are the safest mole traps I have ever seen. Moles have destroyed our yard the past three summers. We tried many different deterrents. Non worked until we saw these traps. I bought two and put them out in the yard at the first sign of moles this spring. I caught three moles in two days in a small 15 by 20-foot space. The traps kill instantly. It is somewhat difficult to open the traps to release the dead mole but that is a minor nit.

Great
Got the fella in a couple hours. Took others advice-find the main run, set the device in it and then use a stick or something else to make small holes in the tunnel about 12 inches from each side of the trap. The mole will be drawn by air entering the tunnel system to do repairs and hit the trap.

Ça fonctionne très bien
J’étais un peu septique au début ça m’a pris un certain temps , environ une semaine, avant de capturer ma première taupe, ça fait maintenant deux que je capture. Bon produit et solide, je vous le recommande

Amazing
Works amazing, if it doesn't work for you its operator error. Wear gloves, take gloves out of box with gloves on do not ever touch it. I seasoned mine in the weather outside. Caught a mole within an hour. Excellent product and easy to use. Do your research on using it.

Efficacité du produit incertaine
Le piege est tel qu'annoncé. Pour ce qui est de l'efficacité pas certaine. Pense pas pouvoir eliminer la taupe avec ce genre de piège.

Solidly built and easy to use
I like the fact that no digging is required for setting the trap. A little digging at the mole hill may be necessary to locate the tunnels. Haven't caught a mole yet but that is no fault of the trap. It might be more to do with ground conditions and human error.
