Fun and a Life-Saver
I bought this mostly for fun.It was reasonably cheap even with the p+p.I wasn't expecting it to be up to much but was pleasantly surprised.I've tried it on a few small 25mm to 35mm (approx 1 inch to 1 1/2 inches) branches at home and after mastering the technique was reasonably impressed with it's cutting abilities. At first i thought I could just plop it over a branch and push/pull like shining a pair of shoes but this clogged/jammed. I expect if I was arnold schwarzenneger that wouldn't have been a problem but being only mortal I found I had to have my arms fairly wide spread to keep the angle of bend at the cutting point as flat as possibe. Considering this can be carried in a pocket and weighs next to nothing I think it's excellent. Certainly in a survival situation it could be a life saver. The first cut to make a bow saw and then Bob's your uncle. How durable it is and how long it will remain viable I don't know yet. But since I am fairly careful and will keep it loosely coiled and kink free I have high hopes.

You get what you pay for?
This was the cheapest Wire Saw on Amazon that I could find.It does what you want it to, no reason not to get this one from all the others.I just can't compare it to the others because I don't own them, but I can say that if you're tight on money and need a wire saw, buy this one. It does what they all do.Although cutting through thick pieces of wood/tree is obviously going to take a while. It cuts through thick plastic even easier than wood as the heat melts the plastic. It doesn't cut through metal though.A good thing about this wire saw (like I said I have no idea about the others) Is that it can't blunt because it's strands of metal wrapped around each other so there are no teeth. It also means it's safer to hold the wire, but it will leave marks or snag on your skin.4 Stars because I couldn't tell you if there's a better one. Just that this one is good enough anyway.

Perfect addition to a camping/survival kit.
This is a great little wire saw indeed, but you know what I like best? The price!!Compared to ones I have previously had (which have also snapped) this is a very decent price, and a really handy item to keep tucked away in a camping kit bag or suchlike.Oh I know what you're going to say, it won't get through a huge tree that falls and prevents you being on your way, but it's not designed for that, and really, how many times does that happen? Exactly. Exactly!!I'm not sure if Commandos actually use this one, I suspect that might not actually be the case, but it was enough of a reason to sneak a couple of phrases from the film into my review. If Matrix was here, he'd laugh too!Anyway, joking aside this is a cheap and useful addition to a camping/survival type kit. Thanks for reading my review - I hope it's helpful in trying to make a purchase decision, and if you appreciate the information or find it helpful then I would of course be grateful if you'd be kind enough to rate my review as being helpful, thankyou!

Not too shabby
Well, I bought this as an extra 'luxury' to go into my lightweight camping kit, and although it does cut wood, it has a tendency to stick badly when cutting anything that's living - I've not had this problem with other similar designs that have teeth as opposed to the 'diamond wire' style of this saw.Other than that though, it's fairly efficient on dry wood, as long as it's not too thick (about an arm's width is going to be your limit), and it's very compact too - fits nicely in my jacket pocket.

great item and not as fast cutting as i thought ...
great item and not as fast cutting as i thought but it works all the same i had to buy a bigger one that's dose the job quicker as i riding down byways most of the time it important to have something to clear the odd branch also sometime that's not heavy and saves space as well this item will do the job

Great for cheese. Rubbish for everything else
What a total waste of money! So cheaply and poorly made that it didn't even survive my first attempt to cut a small hazel branch. For many years I had another wire saw, made by a different company, and that work perfectly. I could cut large branches. I suspect that the makers of this saw had come across a photograph of a proper wire saw in a book and then decided to make one but had no understanding of how it would work or the strains involved in cutting even the smallest piece of wood. A total joke saw!See photo: the remains of the so-called Commando Saw, note the sparse thin wires that still remain.

good but a bit light weight
this saw is only effective on thinsh branches I tried it on a three inch trunk needless to say the saw trapped and I snapped it at the lasso connection I have however repaired it so its not useless I will have to be more careful when using it.
