Excellent gadget, feet in considerably better condition!!
I purchased one of these approx 2 years ago and completely forgot to review. Thought I'd add a belated review if it helps others as they are INCREDIBLY useful. They can make a considerable difference without incurring the ridiculous costs from regular visits to a professional. You can get the job done by yourself at home or with help from a spouse, partner, etc.In the past I suffered pretty badly with my feet, especially whilst serving in H.M. Forces. I had absolutely awful chronic hard skin/calluses that repeatedly built up all over my heels and soles, and toes. I also had "THE" deeply fissured heels "FROM HELL", (not just on the sides/backs, but the entire undersides as well)!! For many years, my heels and parts of the soles were constantly painful and my heels would frequently bleed, NOT good. All you can do is just keep on going despite these issues and get on with it!! After so many years of wearing high leg boots and cheap military issue socks every day for long periods that didn't allow the skin to breathe and further exacerbated damp feet, I ended up requiring treatment several times. IF ONLY products like these were widely available at that time!! I could have probably sorted the problems out by myself in a reasonable timeframe, and prevented them from ever becoming as bad in the first place. All we had available was pumice stones and they're just woefully inadequate in those circumstances. After that, it was off to the medics to have the skin painstakingly scraped away with scalpels. If lucky, you maybe got a couple of weeks of relief before being right back at square one.IF you already have a significant degree of hard skin and/or badly cracked heels, initially you'll probably be better off with something like a PED EGG (or similar) to quite literally grate off the worst of the dead skin and calluses first. Once done, then one of these electric removers further helps to remove more of the finer dead/hard skin and restore your feet to a much better condition. Together, they really do help to keep on top of things before they become a problem again. *** FOR BEST RESULTS, ensure your feet are COMPLETELY dry and well aired BEFORE using either a Ped Egg or these electric devices or they're nowhere near as effective or become ineffective. *** The rollers also just end up getting clogged up with damp dead/hard skin. You'll then have to purchase extra roller heads far more frequently too. (They quite literally work like an auto sander on dry wood)!! I continue to use a Ped Egg first as required to get the worst off and then use one of these Scholl devices after to finish the job, it's much more effective and faster that way, (thankfully mine were blue as well, not bright pink lol ;o) ). I don't know if it's due to these devices being a little underpowered, or if it's an intended safety feature to stop you literally sanding the good layer of skin completely off your feet and causing a whole new set of problems for yourself???? But, press to hard with one of these devices and it considerably slows the motor and roller down or stops them dead. I suspect it's a little if both to be fair!! (This issue is further compounded by weakened batteries too, I strongly advise some good quality rechargables that you can keep fully topped up)!! However, take an extra couple of minutes and just let the RPM's of the roller to actually do the work and they are pretty effective for sanding down the rest of what a Ped Egg couldn't remove. Skin condition then remarkably improves. (You can also purchase the replacement rollers in different grades of coarseness depending on how bad the problems are or to just maintain your feet once they are in a better condition). I've been out of the Services for a long time but I still continued to have issues with my feet for several years afterwards. Since owning one of these gadgets and the Ped Egg, thankfully my feet are in considerably better condition and nowhere near as painful. (I'm fairly certain I've suffered permanent damage as my heels can still get pretty sore to this day despite looking absolutely fine externally and are no longer subject to the beastings they once were). I don't bother moisturising, etc., make your feet too soft and things can end up going the other way and can become easily damaged in other ways because of it. If you are in a profession where your feet are subjected to a hard life, striking a decent balance of proper care and maintenance without going too far the other way is ultimately key. Some degree of calluses is normal and in certain circumstances necessary to protect the feet from other types of damage, but too much of a build up is when it can become a HUGE and very painful problem.4 x AA batteries are required, although if memory serves some cheap non-rechargable cells were supplied in the retail packaging, (as above, I suggest high quality rechargables, 1 set is sufficient as they can be recharging when not in use). Device is very simple to use, clean, and maintain. Decent instructions for use are provided and spares are easy to source too. They can handle a few knocks but won't withstand any serious punishment. Mine has had a few minor drops and is none the worse for wear. Scholl also advise replacing the rollers after just 12 uses. I've found that once you get on top of the problems and when used in conjunction with a Ped Egg to get the worst off first, then use one of these to finish the job, the rollers can last significantly longer, (especially if you ENSURE your feet are FULLY dry and aired before use). Mine is now 2 years old and it still works perfectly well. It's used very regularly, so it's definitely paid for itself several times over in comparison to chiropodist costs, (or a pedicurist if that's your thing). It's not suitable for working under or between the toes but it's not really meant to be, for that you'll need something more specific. For the heels, most of the soles, sides of big toe, or the top sides of the toes they're ideal and do a great job.Wouldn't hesitate to recommend one of these and if I could rate at 6/5 I would!! Excellent.

Scholl Velvet Hard Skin Remover - Great for those with O. A. As no strength needed
When thinking about buying a hard skin removing device for my feet I did look at a few others also on the market. One being the Ped Egg but found that with that you have to use your hands quite a bit. The other I looked at was the Elle Mac The Body one, but that seemed to have too many fiddly bits for other various things. Pedicure, nail file etc which I did not really want. But price wise on offer a lot cheaper than this item. However I just wanted a foot hard skin removers. So even though the Elle Mac one looked cheaper I would probably not used all the bits, plus attaching them would be a problem with having OA.So after much looking I bought one of these as suffering from OA in thumbs and trying to use a normal hard skin removing tool (pumice stone or foot file ) hurts my hands. So seeing this thought it would make life a little easier before the summer season starts and backless shoes are worn.I was a little dubious at first as to if it would work or maybe not up to the job but it is and the results are extremely good. No you do not need to use the expensive cream with it just because on offer any foot cream or even Vaseline will do. The Scholl one does probably smell nicer but you really are just paying for the name. The hardest part was getting the plastic packet off it, the batteries are already inside, just open the base pull out battery protection label, replace base and away you go.It feels quite soothing on the feet and the handle part easy to grip and use even with OA. A little bit noisy but so much easier than using a normal foot pumice stone as no hand actions needed or strength required.I did have to go over a couple of places a few times, but even so it was done in a matter of minutes and the item kept up to speed all the time. If by any chance it manages to catch your toe it does stop, so no accidents. No blades or sharp bits it really is a safe item but do make sure your hair or any threads from your clothes do not get in the way when using as they can get caught up in it. (A thread from my scarf nearly had it).The only issue I have is that the replacement file part seems expensive, so a good idea to keep a look out for when on offer and buy then.Price wise it is a little expensive for one roller which is a file because basically that is all it is a foot file on a roller. Also batteries are needed when the ones included run out. For me and wanting smooth feet without hardly any effort at all a good idea. Even more so as having a hand operation in the next few weeks and this device will come in so handy then to keep my feet nice and smooth without causing any pain to my hands.UPDATE. I think the thing with this item is to use it maybe once a week when on top of any foot skin problems and to keep on slathering on foot cream, not even expensive stuff Vaseline works great too with socks to make it sink in.Glad I bought this one over the other makes as really easy to use, clean and had to cover to protect the roller whilst not in use. Plus it gives wonderful results and being on my feet a lot walking the dog and looking after pigs and such I needed something that was up to the job but also something to make my feet feel pampered. I know if my mum was still about I would have bought her one as a present as it really is good easy and safe to use. This item is so so easy to use, even with having just had a hand operation done on Friday, this morning Sunday was able to not only take the cover off the top of the item, but actually use it too. One of the best items I have ever owned for my feet, now if only there were something to take away my pain from operation I would be happy, but at least have nice soft feet.

Better than some but still not perfect
After years of arm ache from using manual hard skin removers and gimmicks like the Pedegg, I was really excited to try this when it came out. The Pedi is battery operated and comfortable to hold so it doesn't feel as though you're having to do too much "work" yourself when simply rolling this over your feet. It is also easy to use and the roller can be replaced when worn out with the click of a button. In terms of effectiveness, I have found that it is good for buffing off a small amount of the average hard skin build up - if you only have a bit of hard skin to remove then this will remove it and the feet will come up nicely. However, I would not recommend this for really tough areas of hard skin as you will be there for hours and the roller will wear out pretty quickly. I find the best way to use this is for the areas which are not too bad and then finish off the really tough bits with a manual hard skin remover. This makes the device a bit pointless but saves you some manual work with the rest of your feet if you think it is worth spending the money for this benefit.I also found that it is not very good for use on the toes as the roller seems to get caught on the smaller surface area and not work properly so beware of this as it hurts! All in all I would recommend this product for your average weekly hard skin removal but not for particularly hard skin with cracks etc. as the device just doesn't seem to be up to it in terms of power or endurance.
