Great book; bad copy
I had to read this book for class. Its a fantastic book and great resource. This review isn't on the contents in the book. Content wise I would give it 5/5 stars. But I read one chapter of the book and the spine started falling apart. Maybe I just got a bad copy of it?

I ordered this for a college course I am taking but honestly, this book is a great starting book for anyone wanting to learn more about the Bible. This only goes through five books but it does a really good job of giving the history, authorship, language, character breakdown, etc. It also gives a good break down of the chapters. I fully intend on keeping this for future studies, as well as buying other books by the same publishers.

Good overview but poorly presented
This book was required reading for a class on the Wisdom Literature. It is quite informative in an introductory sense (it deals with authorship, setting, themes, outlines, readership, etc for each book) but the presentation of the material is very dry and unexciting even in the books aesthetics. There are only bold titles and the rest is just words on the pages. Hardly an exciting book to pick up to read or use for quick reference due to the layout. That being said, if the information contained in the book was easily accessible, it would be a very helpful tool in sermon prep or Biblical interpretation.

The book is a very good commentary. It helps me understand the books that are difficult to read, like the Jobs. It gives a good summary of each chapter of the Book of Jobs and the quotes of other commentaries of are of good choices.

Good information given
This book gave many different ideas about the wisdom books and psalms concerning for instance author, date, historical background etc. Very useful if you want to have more information than just a bit that is superficial

Full of detail
Well written and very detailed. This book walks verse by verse through the books of Job, Psalms, Proverbs, Ecclesiastes, and Song of Songs. Reiterates just enough for solid understanding of the text covered.
