A Vampire thatās been asleep for a century?
And needs help in modern society? Sign. Me. Uuuuupp! šCassie (in her 20s maybe?) finds a $200 a month apartment for rent on Craigslist and canāt believe her luck š³ (letās be real. In THIS economy!? Girl. If you donāt take it I will š ). It seems too good to be true. So she messages the owner, Frederick (320) and he responds quickly and in a very professional manner š (sometimes extremely formal š¤£). She goes to see the place and takes it š¤·š»āāļø (itās also then when Frederick realizes that he listed it way too cheaply š¬ there was a typo when he listed it š¤£š¤¦š»āāļø lol). There are only a few of rules she must follow: donāt open the hallway closet/door, donāt enter Frederickās room, and donāt be too loud during the day when Frederickās sleeping š (and heāll be respectful of her space and sleeping time as well).Their rooming situationās going well, until she comes home one day and sees blood bags in the refrigerator š³ and she freaks the f out š¬ (duh. Who wouldnāt š«£). This is when Fredrick reveals heās a vampire⦠and heās been asleep for about 100 yearsā¦Hoooooly shiznit š³What I liked/loved: possible spoilersāgetting to know each other ā¤ļø. I loved it when they were both in each otherās presence š«¶āhow adorable Frederick is 𤣠because heās so clueless of what itās like to live in the 21st century š. TikTok? Cookware? IG? Shopping? Googling? Social media? Coffee orders? This poor vamp needs help š¤”. Good thing Cassieās willing to help him outāthe ordering coffee scene gets its own bullet š¤£āand the food and shopping scene as well š¤£āgoogling info on kissing and age gap relationships šš¤£āthe tension š. Ufff. Yes. Thereās some tension š I love how proper Frederick is š āFREDERICK clutching HIS pearls š¤£. Not Frederick being the one embarrassed for Cassieās reputation after they get caught kissing š¤”. I was š¤£šāthe š„. So, this is slow burn š their first kiss happens close to 70% which is then followed by full š„ in the mid 70s% (or 80% according to the audiobook). I wish we saw more than that one scene (because he has to be able to get blood in order to š¦)āhis enthusiasm for eating š yeah. That š„µš¦ (he wants to do it everyday š love me a selfless lover š¤·š»āāļø)āthe letters ā¤ļø. I luuuuurved this š„¹. Because Frederick and Cassie have different awake times, they rely on writing each other notes š«¶ (and heās not too tech savvy so š¬)āhe cooks her chicken noodle soup šš„¹š«¶āconsoling her when she needs it šā¤ļøš„¹What I didnāt like/wanted more of:āexcuuuuuse me⦠what is up with that epilogue? šš I need more please šāonly ONE š„ scene??? šš alllll this buildup and we only get one? š it was a good one, but come on šāso, Frederick needs to drink blood in order to š¦, since we only see one š„scene, does he only ever bite her finger? Can he go to other places? š why donāt we see this? š can she heal from these bites? Sigh. I have so many questions šāmore vampire world info š. Can humans get pregnant from vampires? Can they get sick from humans? Whatās the process of turning a human into a vampire? These are questions I need answers to so I can believe their HEA šā¦ but others probably donāt care š¤£āwhen his mom holds him hostage, Frederick admits he drinks blood from the source⦠WHOOOO did he drink from ššš????? Hmmmm ???!!! šOverall, this was such a fun read! I was laughing, smiling, and swooning š«¶

Itās alright
Cons:-Too much critique on late stage capitalism (which, to be fair, wasnāt that much). Every time Cassie mentioned it when talking about her art, I rolled my eyes. I also didnāt like Cassieās character in general, but it could also be that Iām one of those people who doesnāt understand her (I might just be an a-hole who doesnāt value art that critiques politics/society).-The ending was so anticlimactic and felt rushed. Hopefully this wouldnāt be considered a spoiler (Iāll try not to go into too much detail), but the whole TikTok plot point and the fact that Cassie didnāt just get murdered is the most unrealistic part about this story, and Iām saying that knowing that thereās vampires in it.-This book made me realize that Iām not a fan of romance novels that just stay within one personās perspective. The whole thing is first-person perspective from Cassieās PoV. However, there were letters and diary entries and humorous text message conversations that were usually at the beginning of some chapters that clued you in on Frederickās thoughts so that was nice. I wouldāve liked a few chapters completely from his perspective, though.Pros:Spicy and there were also plenty of cute moments which I enjoyed. I also enjoyed Frederick learning about the modern world.

āNobody expects a vampire dungeon in Naperville.ā
This was such a fun book! A fantastic palate cleanser in between fantasy series! When I first picked this book up I didnāt realize it took place in Chicago. The cover caught my eye and Iāve been reading more supernatural romance-com books lately, so I figured Iād just go for it (Iām glad I did). My (now husband) and I lived in the Chicago suburbs (literally right down the street from Schaumburg actually) for a handful of years so it was like a trip down memory lane for me reading this bookā¦minus the vampiresā¦though, that definitely would have made things more interesting while I lived there. Pretty sure I worked with some energy vampires at the Social Security office in Elginā¦but thatās a story for another time. This really was such a cute story with a hint of spice. I loved the characters and all their little quirks. Frederick reminded me a lot of a character from the original British version of the tv series Ghosts and Cassie was so relatable. If youāre looking for a light hearted read full of humor, a unique twist on vampires/vampire powers, a fanny pack full of gold doubloons <ā(I died at thisš¤£š¤£), lots of exotic fruit, adorable crushes, jaunts around the Chicagoland area, and something that is going to leave you with a giant smile on your face, this is the book for you! I canāt wait to start Reginaldās story next!

So-so
I really loved the first 3/4 of this book. I was looking for a light quirky book for my spooky season reading, and I do have a thing for vampires, but this isn't my normal reading. For fiction I tend to stick to thrillers or cozies, but I think the description and season sold this for me.I am giving it four stars because right from the beginning I really loved the writing, and I think this author is super talented. I loved the humor. The texts between the characters were lolfr funny. I couldn't believe it but this book has me really needing the two main protagonists to...seal the deal. This author knows how to keep you hooked in that department.About 3/4 way through the book I felt like I lost interest. Once the vampire is held hostage imho it lost a lot of its appeal and by the end I didn't really care how it would end.I wouldn't read the second in the series, but I did recommend this to a couple of friends who actually purchased it and felt the same way I did (independently of me).Read and make your own decision!

The climax felt lacking
I liked the concept of this book. But it felt like the climax was starting to build momentum when suddenly the book was done
