A simple set of crimpers, that work extremely well.
Another excellent quality tool from the Japanese 'Engineer' company. These are a pair of manual crimpers for individual connection pins, such as Jst or Dupont pins. They are spring opening, with a catch to keep them closed when not in use. They come on a blister card, which has some helpful instructions and sizes on the back. (Photo). There is nothing fancy about them. There is no ratchet mechanism, no holding mechanism. All you get are a pair of manual grip crimpers. (Photo).Fortunately, none of that is really necessary and these work extremely well.In fact they are the best I've used. You place the pin in the relevant sized hole and squeeze. You do the conductor first, then move the pin to crimp the insulation. It works extremely well. Just make sure you use the right size hole.It can be fiddly, so it's a massive advantage if your pins are still attached to their manufacturing strip. You can still crimp the pins if they are individually loose, but it is a lot more fiddly.'Engineer' do 3 different sizes of these crimpers.I personally think that these, the PA-20, are the most useful. I have never had to use a size bigger than 2.3mm or smaller than 1.6mm in all my years, so, I can't imagine needing a different pair.Your circumstances may be different, but if you are crimping standard 2.54mm pitch pins, these are the ones you want.Overall, these are a great set of crimpers, that work really well.Yes, they are a little expensive, but with nothing to go wrong, there is no reason why these shouldn't last a life time.Recommended.I hope you found this review helpful.

A "good enough" tool
The price differences between models is almost as bewildering as the crimp size combinations. Pa-09, -20 or -21? Looking at my requirements, in 20+ years, I've only ever needed the 1.6 and 1.9 mm slots - I've never used any other sizes in this style of crimp and all three models accommodate these two sizes.Working on that basis I settled on a pair of Pa-20 simply because of all the options they were the cheapest. Buying directly from Engineer in Japan wasn't a problem either - there was no extra customs duty payable and they arrived in 14 days. I was in no particular rush and this decision saved another couple of £s (in total saved just under 40% off rrp). The crimpers themselves are very well made, easy to use and produce a perfect tidy 2 point crimp. Purists may point out that the insulation grip is a crimp rather than the wrap-round produced by the Dupont or Molex "official" tools and there is no ratchet to ensure you use the correct pressure - but you have to bear in mind they are at least 10 times cheaper, and for someone who isn't making up leads for a living, with a little care they produce a perfectly adequate end product.

Does an nice job but...
I need a tool that can crimp both JST-XH and Dupont connectors. These aren't it but to be fair they don't list Dupont or equivalent so that's not a critique of tool but just for awareness if that's functionality that you need. For the JST-XH crimps they work well but need two operations for each crimp and are dependent on the operator applying the correct amount of pressure whereas a ratchet tool only needs one and will always turn out a well closed crimp. On the flip side of that though, because each crimp requires two operations the tool is more open than a comparable ratchet tool and so gives better visibility of the work and consequently fewer failures than a ratchet tool. You pays your money and makes your choice as the saying goes.If you need a slim and lightweight crimp tool for occasional use without consuming a lot of toolbox space or adding a lot of weight then these are good quality and would serve you well but for frequent use and/or Dupont connectors I've found the Preciva Dupont crimping tool will handle both JST-XH & Dupont connectors (as well as some others), has a ratchet mechanism (which I personally prefer), comes with a set of JST & Dupont headers, crimps & housings and came in about £5 cheaper than this tool.In summary: A well made tool that is slim, lightweight and comfortable to use but there are cheaper options available with more features for more frequent use.

At last crimpers that actually work on small gauge wires - every time
After a very long time and many failures making off small size crimp connectors (Molex, Hitachi etc.) and wasting more than I was successful with using a selection of cheap (and not so cheap) crimping tools I finally swallowed the bullet and had to buy one of these. i have to say I am delighted with the results. I spent the evening making up some ribbon leads and my only failure was my first attempt, every other went perfectly. The delivery, from Japan was fairly good, just under 2 weeks. I cannot recommend this tool too highly and will be throwing my old crimpers away as after using these there is no comparison. Worth the price absolutely.

OEM quality crimp from this bargain priced tool
These are great quality crimps. The dies are well formed and look like they will last a long time. The soft handles makes them comfortable to use. They do an excellent job and the crimp looks OEM quality. Highly recommended.

Excellent value.
Not cheap but you get what you pay for. These are very high quality crimping pliers. They enable you to make perfect crimps every time. They are small and light making it easy to close the smallest crimps. A joy to use. Highly recommended.

This is a very good tool. There are cheaper versions available
This is a very good tool. There are cheaper versions available, but this one does the job to the same quality as much more expensive versions. There are four jaw sockets to choose from and if you follow the clear instructions, you get a good crimp every time. I am very impressed.

Tricky to learn to use
These feel cheap, but cost quite a lot. It also takes quite a few attempts to learn how to get consistently good results, but unlike similar crimp tools that I have purchased, they do work after a bit of practice.

Japan Engineering PA-20 Connection Pliers
Driven by the need to create 25 - 30 custom sized servo connections for a multi-rotor project back in late February, I bought (for $13.47), the ratchet style of crimping tool and went through more than 100 female dupont crimp pins and a meter of 3 strand 22ga servo wire, and couldn't successfully make 1 custom servo extension.Late in March I bought ($8.33), a very simple plier style with 3 different sized crimp stations, they are better, but still no joy.Today, late in June I received a pair of these Engineer PA-20 crimp pliers (for $36.80), and can honestly say they are a joy to work with. As soon as I had a chance to make some test connections, I made 6 crimps and the were all near PERFECT !Rather small in size, they fit my hands well. The lack of compound leverage isn't a problem and might only be an issue if used in a high volume production role. What can I say? If you want the best result at an affordable price, don't hesitate, this is the correct tool.I had been searching for JST crimp pliers and did learn the JST stands for "Japan Solderless Connector".It makes sense, if you solder the wire, with a little luck or practice, you can get a strong connection. The problem though is that the solder wicks past the strain relief tabs that encircle the wire and the insulation, making that point brittle inside the insulation. Vibration and flexing causes the wire to fracture there.I just wished I'd bought these Japan Engineering PA-20 Connection Pliers first, I don't need the other 2 crimp pliers now.

ENGINEER tools just work
This product is simple and it is not luxurious and it does not shout "precision!", but it is well-made and finished and the jaws mate together properly. The handle has detailing on it that must have been inspired by a Gundam - maybe not the most comfortable handle if you are going to crimp 1000 connections in a day. There are multiple sets of crimp jaws for crimping various kinds of terminals to wire. Like every other ENGINEER tool I have, it just works. Not sure what else there is to say? I am really happy I bought this after the more fancy ratcheting crimper I bought completely disappointed. You don't need a ratchet - your hands are easily strong enough to crimp these little connectors in one go, and getting a ratchet to release so you can clear the tool when the tool has messed up the crimp is so annoying. Perhaps if you're on a billion dollar contract you should buy the genuine Molex branded crimpers, a specific tool for each individual part number, and perhaps they would be better but at the price I will never know. Wish I had bought these a long time ago. (Crimping tip - wires with soft insulation, like PVC, crimp well. Wires with harder insulation like PTFE crimp better if the conductor part of the wire is stripped first.)
