disc like new case slight wear Review: Improved with Spec 2 but still not meant for the casual gamer - Whether you like GT5 or not will depend on several factors. There are fans of the various franchises out there (GT, Forza, Need for Speed), who will remain largely loyal to the franchise irrespective of the real qualities. More importantly, it will also depend on how much time you are prepared to invest in playing. If you are a novice to driving, or do so more casually, GT5 is very likely to frustrate. It takes time to unlock the some of the more interesting content and if you never played a driving sim (not of the arcadey type) before, there is a steep learning curve ahead. The cars will not drive for you and being left dead last until you learn to drive the cars properly will probably turn away the gamers who make their assessment in the first couple of hours. For that reason it is probably also not as 'child friendly' as some of the other franchises. Some of the early criticisms of the game have been addressed by now and the October 11th release of Spec 2 (free download) - coinciding with Forza Motorsport 4 (Xbox 360) - has addressed a number of the others. Loading speeds are a bit faster now and you can modify some of the car's settings during the loading process, making it a bit less annoying. It still does not load as fast as Gran Turismo 5 Prologue - Platinum Edition (PS3) but then again there is much more content included. You can save in game during the endurance races now, all cars have the option of an interior view, reviews cann be rewinded / FFd, physics are further improved, better support for steering wheels, etc. In terms of driving dynamics the game probably remains closest to being a real sim of all the games on PS3 at least. It does not offer as much in terms of driving aids as the others but then again, nor do most real world cars. In terms of cars, even the non-premium ones now offer an interior view, although that is pretty rudimentary. The graphics have also been bettered by Forza Motorsport 4 (Xbox 360) in the meantime and the car selection, while over 1000 strong, will still leave some player's wishes unfulfilled. Spec 2 brings some new choice in the form of the '11 NASCAR selection, as well as an(other) race GT-R and the October 18th DLC will offer another 15 cars, including an evolution of the Red Bull X car (X2011), and some race modified Japanese and American cars, as well as three new race karts. If the pace of updates continues and new cars get added (or existing ones switched to premium), I guess that the game will at least remain competitive in this aspect. You will also not be able to customize as freely as in the Forza franchise but most relevant stuff is possible and of course the setup possibilities are extremely varied. The new DLC will also bring Spa and two new cart tracks (driveable in both directions), with Spa probably being the real seller of the pack. Some tracks are still noticeably absent but the game is hardly a chore with the selection already in there. The hope for new tracks in further DLC packs is of course high. In terms of race options, the original A and B spec races have been very comprehensively supplemented by Seasonal events, with the rate of addition rising significantly in the meantime, and with most remaining there for good. If you race online, the possibilities in terms of race variety are of course almost unlimited. Damage is still not the game's strong point, even after all the updates. Again, you are probably more interested in driving rather than crashing and if you do it right, it need not come into it. Tyre wear is modelled adequately and for the most part that should suffice. In the end, it is a game that has frustrated many players (including GT fans) but I find that it still has a lot going for it. The driving is the closest to real life I have experienced on PS3 so far, and if you take the time to master this aspect, there is loads of satisfaction to be had. Until GT6, there is unlikely to be any driving sim better for PS3. Review: WOW - Worth the wait? Abso Bloody Lutely - I got this on Monday (2 days before release) and have played a good 30 hours up to now, it's lived up to my expectations and beyond. I've just come online and found people giving it 2 star reviews and then saying they've only played it for a few hours, is that really enough time to say the game is rubbish? I think not.... The graphics are breat-taking, the cars are gleaming, the tracks are details and realistic (and there's loads of em). The sounds are amazing too, the engine gives a realistic bassy tone on larger engine cars (especially through my surround sound), the soundtrack is excellent, love the Vai, satriani esq Guitar shredding and the 70's/80's mild techno, JMJ / Vangellis style and this is then fused with modern pop, rock etc... all adds to the experience. Also things like driving through snow you get that chrunching sound as you turn your stearing wheel. All very realistic and entertaining. The gameplay is also superb, played the first day with the controller and found the frst few hours a little difficult but went through the licenses and learnt how to control properly and nwo am ripping round circuits like it's nobodys business. Yesterday I got the Logitech GT steering wheel (£79.99 from desertcart) and OMG it's stunning, you get even better control with the wheel and pedals... I bought F1 2010 a few weeks ago and found it too hard but am trading that in as the F1 on this is SO MUCH BETTER although not as many options etc, the go-karting is a nice addition too. My favourite tracks are bar far the snowy ones with mountains etc, really great fun, I keep finding myself smilling in awe and disbelief. So perfect? no, it is a little slow at loading and I installed the game as recomended which too about 30 mins, but we're taking about 30 seconds per race. I also didn't like that when playing in arcade you select your track and car and then when you've finished you have to go all the way back to the main menu to select a new track, should maybe add a random option so you get a new track each time, would be nice if you only have 30 mins to have a quick play. I do think I'm in a slightly better position that others with a 63" 3D TV, Samsung 7.1 Surround, Detatched house so the sound is cranked up and the Mrs at work till 9pm each night so I have 5 hours of uninterupted gameplay in the lounge, I doubt I'd enjoy it as much on a small 32" tv or something without the surround and 3d but man does it make my TV look amazing. Although I have yet to try the game in 3D. I am truly gobsmacked at why people don't like this, my advice, buy it and make up your own mind (and get the logitech GT).

Does not justify the years of waiting
I have loved all the Gran Turismo games (though 4 was not different enough from 3 to justify me perservering with it), and until this, the last release was GT5 Prologue in 2008. I actually published a review on here on Prologue, and urged people not to be too harsh on it as it represented a work in progress and only retailed at £20 when it came out. OK so GT5 - it does look fantastic though there are some graphical imperfections with the shadow effects on cars. Altogether it is a FANTASTIC game, but there are some shortcomings that are unforgiveable given the length of time this game has suffered in incubation. Firstly it is supposedly the ridiculous attention to detail that has kept this game from being released until late 2010, so bearing that in mind, why can you use a handbrake in a go-kart?! I find the modifications a step back from even GT2. Only "premium" cars can be visually changed now (aside from paint colour) and even the choice of say, alloy wheels is far less than it was in GT2. The fact that you cannot mod the standard cars is a major shortcoming and ruins the enjoyment significantly. For me at least, one of the inherent pleasures in GT games was personalising your car! The much publicising damage is pointless. I am level 24 at time of writing and find the damage component rubbish. The cars still bounce off walls just like in the old games and the damage has absolutely no effect on performance so this renders it meaningless. There is no consequence for smashing your car up. A better idea would been, say to shave 10mph of the top speed of the car everytime you prang it - this would then be critical to any race strategy. Races can also be won too easily. GT2 for example may have had a race for "American Cars only" or suchlike, but then there would also be a BHP limit for entries so that you may have to detune a car in order to enter it. Not so in GT5. You can enter race spec vehicles in with road-going models and all you may have to sacrifice is to fit a lower spec set of tyres to it. The GT2 method made for much closer and therefore more rewarding racing - all cars were of a similar capability and again, like the modding, this is a step back in GT5. Though it may have 1000+ cars, these again are sometimes a certain model like a Honda Civic, done to death in a dozen incarnations and means that some other stalwart classics could have been included. 12 versions of a Civic is still one car in my opinion. It would have been nice to see some icons like the Ford Capri, Peugeot 306 GTI, etc. instead of fillers like the VW army vehicles and the ridiculous 3.5 tonne Tank Car. If the above could have been addressed GT5 would indeed have been driving video game Nirvana. As it is, it's just a very good if slightly disappointing sequel - 1 step forwards and 2 steps back.

One word: Wow!
Spoiler Free: If your thinking of buying Gran Turismo 5 and haven't already then I suggest you get ordering it. Millions of people played the first instalment of the franchise back in 1992. The game offered users a chance to buy both new and second hand cars and develop them through a fairly advanced scheme, this created a new type of racing genre similar to what some have stated an `RPG' developed game. When Gran Turismo 2, 3 and 4 were released some of these features were lacking the game overall offered many additional elements but did not contain the fundamental necessities to increase game playing time and user experience. Polyphony digital then releases Gran Turismo 5 prologue, which I myself also purchased, based on what I have experience so far the full Gran Turismo game is non comparable. I was eager to buy this game when it was first released but believed the game wouldn't be to my greatest expectations. How wrong I was. Despite other negative reviews on here created by teenagers and various other gaming enthusiasts, let me assure you this game has raised the bar on all driving games. Project Gotham racing 3 for the Xbox proved highly entertaining and popular also selling many copies but has no way near the content Gran Turismo contains. If you loved the first Gran Turismo game then this game is for you: #Stunning breathtaking visuals with exceptionally realist sound effects and physic controls for cars Enhanced car sales showing a huge array of cars that players can buy before racing. #Tuning up section, highly advanced and individually based for each individual car and its specifications #Wide variety of music choices that can be customised for enjoy ability. #Repair aesthetics shop (GT Auto) to change the look and mechanics of the car replacing default/stock parts for increased performance bumpers spoilers and bonnets. #Huge selection of tracks, featuring Clubman stage 5 from the first instalment and the popular route 11 at night track. #Expansive exclusivity with Britain's popular Top Gear program containing several racing stages through the 8 track used in Surrey #A spec and B Spec modes designed to allow players to improve their credibility for their driving skills i.e. Experience points, the higher the number the better cars you can acquire and the more advanced the races you can take part in. #User interface; this game offers a very in-depth friendly user interface within the GT Mode (career mode) for navigating round the various sectors, from car importation when winning championships or for the license scheme which let me add is highly advanced There is so much to the world of Gran Turismo, they deserve to know what we think and how they can improve the customer experience program, because believe me they'll be looking at reviews we write, let them know in my opinion this game is literally 10/10 however the fundamental element which concerns me and the only thing that concerns me is the loading times between matches. Due to the graphics, visual effects and the general complexity involved within a game of this calibre your looking at 20-30 seconds before you play the game, and that is offline. This review does not cover online play mode.

Excellent racing game
I have been playing GT5 for the past few weeks and enjoying every minute of it. For the most part the graphics are great, they flow very smoothly and maintain a very high frame rate. The gameplay is what its all about. The cars handle great and varied. To experience the handling characteristics you need to switch off all the driver assists otherwise the ATC kicks and the cars handle the same. There are loads of game modes and options. You have A-spec career mode which is basically you racing and earning money and experience to get cars and unlocking new races. B-spec is when you manage a driver to race earning money and xp etc. You have special races and challenges which involve karting, nascar, rally. There are also seasonal events available which are new races that become available when you update the game online through the year. These include time trials that are ranked online, drift challenges and special races. So there's a constant stream of new challenges should you finish the game. Variety of cars is excellent. Even if you limit yourself to the premium cars, you have a wide variety of cars to keep yourself busy, everything from karts to trucks, hot hatches to f1 cars. Can't really comment on online as I've only been playing the single player. Overall this is a great game for any car nut and playing with a steering wheel and pedals makes the game awesome.

Christmas has arrived early!
Gran Turismo 5. This game looks and plays the way you'd expect it to. One word "amazing". The premium cars look slick, sound and handle differently from each other. The attention to detail is especially apparent on the stealth cars I received as a preorder bonus. One of these, the Maclaren F1 stealth car would not be out of place in the most recent Batman movies. There is so much content available, including over 1000 cars, the many race tracks, and various modes including GT/Arcade/multiplayer/practice, and the many competitions and license tests. There is one word to describe this. Overwhelming. Wait let me add... overwhelming attention to detail and awesomeness! Gran Turismo has finally returned. This the only racing game you'll ever need want on the PS3. I dare say that this is the best racer on any platform, period. Ignore the naysayers, ignore the hype, ignore the long wait. Enjoy this game based on its own merit, for what it is, the most realistic, rewarding and most importantly fun racing game for the PS3. Christmas really has come early to PS3 owners - in the form of racing fun Gran Turismo 5!

Visually STUNNING
There was certainly a lot of hype surrounding this game, and Graphics wise this game does not disappoint... I don't know what the other people are on to rate this game any lower than 4 stars, since this game is really really good, despite it not having cockpit view in every car, (which I suspect GT6 will have cockpit view for nearly all cars) or GT5 might create cockpit packs that you can get after its release. One of the few let downs is the loading times, but nowhere near as bad as some people claim... at the moment I have only had time to play the game for 1 hour, and all I have played is the Arcade mode... so my review might be VERY limited, but for me at least for far I have been impressed by the stunning visuals, and physics engine, but as other people have said, the AI has still got room for improvement... If you haven't bought this game, then you are missing out.. especially if you are a fan of the series, and even if you aren't, you will be missing out on one the the most visually STUNNING games ever made for a console!

What you say is what you get.
Obviously this game is extremely easy to use, and what you see is what you get personally I never usually purchase the grunter is moon from earthgame but while John is racing I do purchase that I meant the series of games as in grantorism and two three four every minute they go up to I meant that I don't normally buy any grand tourism games has put it that way whether it be one or whether it be 101 but I saw our purchases when I'll give them a go see if there are fun to play and personally I didn't like it, but I did allow some of my friends to play it and a few of them absolutely love it some of them say okay and one or two of them agree with me so it really is personal preference.
