The Oxford Handbook for the Foundation Programme returns for a new edition with clear and thorough clinical guidance and honest advice to help you excel in your first two years as a doctor. This edition has been fully updated in line with the latest guidelines and gives you practical, step-by-step guidance on everything from neurological to gastroenterlogical presentations. Emergency presentations are easily identifiable, giving you fast access to the information you need. This edition also includes a fully revised chapter on pharmacopeia with references to the British National Formulary, as well as chapters on practical procedures and interpreting results, acting as a guide for surviving on - and off - the wards. The Oxford Handbook for the Foundation Programme is also a unique resource for things they don't teach you at medical school about being a doctor and life on the wards. The authors have drawn on their own experiences and careful research to help you understand issues ranging from your pay and pension, stress and workplace relations, paperwork, and career development. This is an excellent resource for Foundation Programme trainees and medical students preparing themselves for life as a doctor. With this pocket-sized guide at your side you'll never be alone on the wards again. Review: incredibly detailed and useful, a must for all doctors starting FY1 - Arrived on time, incredibly detailed and useful, a must for all doctors starting FY1. As an international med student returning to UK for FY, it helped give me all the info I need right from the basic, miniscule to the huge details - since UK med students get all this information in their unis but we abroad do not have access to this information. Hugely recommend. Also, buy it months before you start FY so you have enough time to read through at least the initial parts of the book which tell you how your job/career will be. Review: Perfect preparation for Foundation years - Perfect for myself as a final year med student almost about to start as an f1. This book is spot on, it's not a super detailed textbook but it does contain a concise detail of all the important bits they reckon you really need to know for the first year of being a junior doctor. Great addition that fits in the back pocket (just) and is a bit more tailored to the job than the standard Oxford handbook of clinical medicine. Would be great if buying the book also granted you access to the app however.

A must have book for all Junior doctors!
This book provides excellent guidelines and helps junior doctors in their foundation year get confident before or during their training. As an IMG, I found this book valuable in terms of being able to help me settle down and get used to the inner workings of the U.K. Care/health system and get familiar with the NHS. It has given me excellent insight into the duties of junior doctors and the responsibilities of a physician. Furthermore, it helps and guides you in terms of being able to deal with everyday routine procedures whether clinical or paperwork like filling in forms. I would greatly recommend buying this book. Another great thing was I received this book on a Sunday which actually made my day as I was due to travel on Monday!

Must have handbook
This is probably the best book to have during your clinical years of medicine. I would go as far as to say its better than the OHB for clinical medicine. The reason for this being it is much more practically orientated in helping you identify and manage conditions you will see when you first become a doctor. It provides concise differentials for most common presentations with recent management guidelines. It is more practical and less theoretical than most other OHBs. I highly recommend for all medical students and foundation doctors.

Amazing for future doctors!
Will get you through medical school/finals and FY1, very compact information. Does lack some detail and explanations but gives you the basics, need to read around some areas. Also found useful for explains life as a junior doctor, I have never really understood the role I would be playing, the shift I would expect and the jobs I will be doing, but this boook sums that all up and describes how to do ward round note taking/ on call shifts/ etc. Very useful item for all budding doctors

Don't bother
I am a big fan of the Oxford Handbook of Clinical Medicine, however this book is not worth the purchase. A lot of this information you will know by the end of your first month and you will not use this book as a reference. I regret purchasing this book.

So useful - am halfway through my FY1 and I have found this to be invaluable, particularly when you are on call in the middle of the night and are unsure of what to do. Not to be read all the way through in one go, but good for brushing up on knowledge and confirming your thoughts when in the middle of dealing with a stressful situation!

Kindle version is great, lots of features
The book is required for the foundation program and it covers what you need to know. The pathology is quite basic but it is the review of clinical procedures is this book's strong point.
