A good mix of psychological horror and philosophy
This show was a bit of a surprise for me as i had never heard of it before, however i watched the fansub and only bought this DVD in order to give the creators the cash they deserve, the reason for me watching the fansub is that they've censored this release of the show, without spoiling anything there is a species in this show called 'Queerats', these are just called 'Monster Rats' in this version however, which muddles up the meaning behind the name of their species in the last episode, kind of eroding an important plot point. All that aside, please watch this show whether or not you buy this release or watch the fansub, it's got a slow build-up and is a particularly depressing show, but it has a very satisfying ending in my opinion.Fansub Ver: 5/5DVD Release Ver: 4/5

The series has some great ideas but is a strange, dark mix of styles
I would summarize this series as a dark fantasy that plays with some really interesting ideas. Unfortunately, the story is a depressing drudge that veers between teenage fan-fiction and an art piece.

💩💩💩
I first read this when they came out few years ago and loved it so when I hard that they had made it into anime I couldn't wait to see it. I shouldn't have bothered it was crap wast of money not even the same storyline as the books and what's worse is that why rate it 15 it so lame and might as well have been PG

A genuinely serious classis
A beautifully plotted story, full of unexpected developments, which salvages a genuinely forward-looking message from a situation of horrific devastation. Both the devastation and the message that emerges add up to a sober and clear-sighted appreciation of what our lives have taught us about the dark sides and the hopeful moments of our recent war-torn decades.
