Nice cards and funny stories
The game is played with a certain macabre sense of humour. In that the goal is to inflict misery on your family, then kill them whilst sprinkling joy on others. The cards are generally alliterative and have a humorous quote on them. Half the fun is creating a story that links any previous cards with your current action to create a narrative. The game design is also nice, in that cards that benefit you (depress your family) require a sacrifice on your behalf, whilst those that hurt other players (making their family happy) gives them some extra cards. And the cards are transparent making them have overlapping(or not) effects that can sometimes cancel the previous layers/grant a bonus on death. A nice game to play if you have 15 to 20 mins and fancy some strategy mixed in with silly storytelling. Works well with 2 players.

Fantastic fun!
I bought this as a present for a family member, and we had such a great time playing it. The cards all have beautiful artwork on them and it was surprisingly easy to play, the game encourages you to create a story around these characters based on how the game plays which creates some very entertaining tales being spun. Really great fun for the family!

A great game with the right people.
This game is great fun, if a little morbid! The quality of the cards is wonderful, and they are beautiful to look. The game itself is easy enough to play, you have your family members and can play modifiers on then. The aim is to play negative modifiers on your cards, and positive modifiers on your opponents. The real fun in the game comes from the stories you make. Each modifier has a brief line like 'fell down a well' or 'abandoned at the alter' and it's up to you to flesh out the tale. As a result the success of the game depends on how creative you and your friends. If you have one person who doesn't get it the whole thing falls apart. But all in all a great game with the right people

You have modifier cards which have minus points or plus points on them the minus points are good for you plus points not good
Gloom for me is a decent game if you take the time to learn the rules. It is not a game you can open and play straight away. New players can get extremely frustrated with the depth to the game and not take it in. The aim of the game is to pile misery on your character cards. You have modifier cards which have minus points or plus points on them the minus points are good for you plus points not good. When a modifier is played at the bottom of the card there is an action what must be carried out. The actions on the modifier cards are what for me bring the game down because some of them are poorly written and make no sense at first. Gloom is a decent game but would it be one I would buy ahead of games like Love letter or Werewolf no. Certainly not a game to buy if you like simplicity.

Fun game
Really fun game though not for those with a bad memory! Definitely better played in a group

fun game, lots of good story telling options, really clever card design, well packaged
the game plays well for 2 to 5 players, and the run time can be adjusted down by encouraging shorter stories - but the long rambling stories are most of the fun! the cards(?) are beautifully made, and the artwork is all stunning and provides lots of prompts for the storytelling aspect of the game. the game itself is compact and well packaged, and the rules are clear and helpful. I'd recommend this to anyone who enjoys macabre storytelling, or anyone who enjoys inflicting misery on poor fictional characters.

For All You Storytellers
A well designed that game that is as simple as it is diverse. The quality of the cards is extremely high and the box design fits nicely in a pocket (especially a coat pocket) making it a wonderful travel option as well. The smaller design also means it can be available at anytime! The gameplay is easy to learn and can be played without a wordsmith or if you are not inclined in that way. Playing it without a great deal, if any, storytelling can lead to shorter time play. If however you are like myself this game will let your imagination run wild and provide many hours of fun in just one game let alone many rounds.

Gloomy fun for everyone!
Yeah, we played for hours and had so much fun! I've been teaching many of my friends how to play too! We're now looking to get the expansion packs!

One of the more unique ones out there.
Personally I loved this game - A hilariously dark and twisted little time-passer, this works well so long as you elect to build a story around your game-play (loosely) and it can be a bundle of evil-laughs. A nice change of pace from a lot of games I've played. Though the fact that you have to seperate the cards each time was a bit annoying as they just come in two stacks. A simple couple of opaque cards or something would have served perfectly. Also, not always the easiest game to explain to those who are not big table-top gamers, but if they are willing it's not the hardest to get them into either.
