I want to purchase these to put an A3 map in and have my children trace the maps with a dry erase marker.  Do documents stay in well?

I have A4 size but have never used them for that purpose.  I think you would have to have something like a paperweight to make sure the map doesn’t move.  Hope it works, sounds like a great idea!

It's not something I have done.  Documents usually stay in these folders ok but I file them away so they are not being used a lot. I would think that if only one child at a time traces the map the map would stay in the folder okay but maps are usually quite large (at least, OS maps are). Perhaps if you photocopy the map on to A3 or A4 paper and put that in the folder that would stay in fine.  Good luck.

Are these hole punched to keep in folder?

No they are not hole punched. Each one is a folder in itself. It is open across the top and down one side. They are not flimsy like A4 sleeves to be kept in a file. They are strong; ideal for A3 sized art work. I use them as music folders for our orchestra.

Question 4

Would these be suitable to present artwork? Are they clear and look professional?

They are strong, of good quality and professional-looking - BUT I don't think they are clear enough to recommend for displaying art. They have a VERY slight milky tinge resulting from their thickness and composition. You can see through it well enough, but I think that they will detract from the art. Bottom line - if you put a piece of artwork behind a sheet of clear glass and then put the same piece in one of these, would it look the same? Definitely not. I would recommend looking for wallets described as "GLASS clear". Hope this helps.
