Nissin MF18 Macro Flash for Nikon

The flashlight is very solid product and comes in a good quality storage box which is a plus. It works very well with my Nikon D800 for macro photography and for portrait as well. Highly recommended!

Functions perfectly with all my Nikon cameras. Really like the different modes and works particularly well when slaving to other flash units in the wireless mode, which I use a lot. Quality product, good value.

I was pleasantly surprised at the quality of build of the MF18. It's much bigger and heavier than I expected, but certainly useable for me. It's easy to use and control the light output, which can b variable on either side. The flash does have a port to update the firmware, however it does not come with a USB lead, and the instructions advise to use the one that came with your camera, one reason I gave it four stars instead of five. The other is that there is no way to adjust the angle of direction of the flash, so depending on your exposure you can get shadows. Overall it well worth buying.

I was very disappointed with this product. Reading professional and customer reviews this seemed like the perfect flash for my macro photography but I have found its Nikon iTTL support to be very unreliable and its support for fast shutter speeds > 1/250s to be poor. In some use cases I'd have gotten more illumination from a candle! Even operating it entirely manually, I found it unreliable. I actually got better results from my home made paper card diffuser sellotaped to my sb400 speedlight!!! I am in the process of sending it back to Amazon.As my negative opinion is in the minority, perhaps I received a bad example? I might try again and see if I have better luck next time.

I am still getting to grips with this setup so will not pretend to be in a position to review its performance. I purchased on review of others. What I can report on is the build quality. The finish, presentation and functionality is simply the best it can get. The kit comes with several adapter rings, for those who know of the problems with thread alignment and locking filters, some never to part company again, the adapter rings supplied by Nissin work without any issue, proving quality in this detail. I have high hopes that the performance will equal the build quality, expensive yes but so far I am not disappointed.

I am very pleased with this product. I still have a lot of experimenting to do but it is giving me excellent results so far.

Excellent piece of kit. Quality build and performs beautifully. Comes in a really nice case, which stores both the flashgun and adaptor - as well as the adaptor rings. Fits the Nikon 7200 camera I have really well. The two reasons it lost a star, is the lack of any instruction leaflet/booklet. There is a "quick start" guide which shows how to use the basics, but you need a third party book (or on-line videos?) to get the best from the kit. I know many maunfacturers now rely on the user to get help, but (for the money) I would have expected a little more guidance.The second reason it lost a star is that it does 'vignette' at wider angles. There is a feature on the flash where you can expand the flash rings out of the way, but it only goes so far. Overall though I would recommend this kit to any body. Paired with my Sigma 105mm Macro lens it gives excellent results.

I figured if I spent the extra money I'd finally be able to get the ring flash that would do exactly what I wanted it to do. I would not have known this was used other than the tape on the original box being already cut. In initial test shots I've used faster shutter speeds and wider apertures than previous (cheap) ring flashes.

Tests sur mon NIKON 810 uniquement. Pour le moment je l'ai essayé surtout avec des photos de bijouterie et j'aime bien le cache ombres qu'il proportionne. C'est très facile de le programer en manuel et on peut même changer la luminosité des deux moitiés de façon indépendante. Le fait que c'est facile à monter sur des différents objectives c'est aussi très bien. J'ai fait quelques essais avec une objective macro sur des feuillages en lumière ambiante et j'ai été supris par le rayonnement de transparence qu'il proportionne ... je compte travailler ces possibilités plus tard. Pour le moment je ne le "regrette" pas :))...

Flash excelente. Bien construido y con muy buen cabado. Además de poder trabajar con control automático TTL, dispone de ajustes precisos para operar con los dos elementos semicirculares o seleccionando cada uno por separado, y en cada uno definir la intensidad que mejor convenga.Con el botón central de ajustes se activa la iluminación continua para realizar el enfoque en condiciones de poca luz.También resulta muy cómoda la pantalla digital, que gira según se cambie la posición de la cámara de horizontal a vertical, de modo que es fácil ver en qué modo de están trabajando y se pueden hacer ajusten sea cual sea la posición de la cámara.Sencillo y rápido el sistema de montaje y desmontaje de los adaptadores para los diferentes diámetros de los objetivos, y excelente el sistema de ampliación de las dos partes en que está divido el aro.En suma, un gran flash que cumple con todos los requisitos necesarios para fotografía macro.Compra sin duda recomendable, máxime por el precio que tiene en Amazon.

Ich habe einen bezahlbaren Ringblitz für Nikon (bei mir D600) gesucht, der sich variabel an meinem Objektivpark anbringen lässt. Ich habe welche gefunden, wo man die Adapterringe zukaufen muss, oder welche, wo eine Auswahl beiliegt, aber bestimmte Größen nicht dabei waren. So z. B. für mein heißgeliebtes Tamron 180mm Makro, dessen 72 mm Filtergewinde bei den meisten Ringblitzen nicht berücksichtigt wird. Anders hier: Der Nissin bringt sechs Ringe von 52 bis 77 mm mit, also lassen sich sowohl die kleinen Normalobjektive wie das 50 mm/1.8 als auch die Profigrößen alá 24-70 oder 70-200 mit ihren 77mm bestücken. Die Ringe sind aus Metall gefräst und lassen sich reibungs- und verkantungslos an den Filtergewinden anbringen.Der Blitz selber wird dann einfach aufgesteckt. Man hört den Erfolg an einem deutlichen Einrasten. Die Blitzhälften können gegen Abschattungen mit einer Taste mechanisch auseinander bewegt werden, wobei die zwei Blitzhälften dadurch weiter weg vom Objektiv stehen. Das mit dem Spiralkabel verbundene "Kraftwerk" kommt auf den Blitzschuh und ist auch die Schaltzentrale mit einigen wenigen Tasten und einem Farbdisplay, dass sich im Hochformat auch kippt. Schön! Je nach Länge des Objektivs wird das Kabel dabei mehr oder weniger verwunden, was schon mal dazu führen kann, dass sich der Blitzaufsatz aus seiner ursprünglich vertikal angebrachten Lage (siehe Produktfoto) Richtung horizontal verschiebt. Kleiner Schönheitsfehler, der mit ein bisschen Fingerspitzengefühl wieder in die richtige Lage gebracht werden will. Eine Feststellung dafür gibt es leider nicht.Die eigentliche Leistung des Blitzes lässt nichts zu wünschen übrig. Beide Hälften sind getrennt regelbar, es gibt i-TTL, Makro (mit einer sehr guten Feinabstufung der Leistung) und manuelle Modi. Ebenfalls kann der Blitz weitere Blitze im Mastermodus auslösen. Produkt- oder Makrofotos gelingen damit sehr einfach. Das Licht ist weich und der Schattenwurf fast nicht vorhanden. Mit weiteren Blitzen von der Seite verschwinden die Schatten ganz.Schwierig finde ich es bisher, den Blitz bei Portraitfotos in die Augen zu zaubern, so wie man es manchmal als Stilmittel findet. Entweder stimmt die Entfernung nicht, man muss dann näher ran und macht eventuell nur noch ein Teilportrait oder man ist so weit weg, dass der Blitz normal ausleuchtet, aber im Auge nichts zu finden ist. Bei einigen wenigen Probeschüssen ist es mir doch gelungen, der Blitz zeigt dann seine zwei Hälften und keinen echten Ring als Reflexion. Dies als Hinweis an die, die gerade deshalb einen Ringblitz suchen.Insgesamt eine hervorragend ausgestattetes Gerät mit vernünftiger Leistung zu einem bezahlbaren Preis. Nissin macht mittlerweile auch andere gute Blitze, die Marke sollte man im Auge behalten.
