Product Description PRAISE BE TO ZARDOZ!Between the Hollywood productions of Deliverance and Exorcist II: The Heretic, John Boorman embarked on one of the strangest films ever to come from a major studio. The year is 2293. Society as we know it has broken down centuries ago with the Earth s population split into three classes: the Brutals, who work the land and are forbidden from reproducing; their overseers, the Executioners; and the highly civilised Eternals, who are protected from the outside world by a force-field. But when an Executioner, Zed (Sean Connery, light years from James Bond), smuggles himself into their isolated paradise, he risks unbalancing the system and threatening the status quo...Photographed by Geoffrey Unsworth (2001: A Space Odyssey) and designed by Anthony Pratt (Excalibur), dystopian science-fiction has rarely looked so beautiful or been so odd as it appears in Zardoz. Good for all the wrong reasons
One of the funniest films I’ve ever seen. It’s not supposed to be a comedy but it’s absolute gold. Sean ‘James bond’ Connery running around in his undercrackers whilst a floating decapitated head spouts weapons whilst broadcasting “guns are good, the penis is evil”. Yep it’s as bonkers as it sounds.

Sean Connery gets to grips with an existential crisis - in red underpants!
I bought this in the wake of the passing of the films star and producer, the late Sir Sean Connery. This is a dated, but enjoyable movie. The plot and characters are predictable bearing in mind the profusion of post-apocalyptic sci-fi that have “graced” our screens during the intervening period.Taken in context, Zardoz could be construed as a tongue in cheek appraisal that takes itself a lot less seriously than certain modern TV projects that deal with the question of what Choices humanity could take when the prospect of near immortality becomes possible.I actually think that Zardoz asks some interesting questions and provides some intriguing answers. Connery revels in the role and the supporting cast are all doing their bit with admirable enthusiasm. If you like Sean Connery, this film may offer you a different perspective upon what films he really wanted to do after gaining a degree of “clout” within the industry. This was something of a dry run for “The League of Extraordinary Gentlemen” and like it’s successor divided opinion with the public..Neither were boring however, and Zardoz is a fine period piece.

ZARDOZ BLU RAY
This review is for the BLU RAY issued 2015 (N.B. This is not a review of the DVD - everything is as usual all lumped together!). The quality of the Blu Ray is excellent. 2.35 ratio (bars top and bottom) excellent colou, clear picture and good sound with good sybtitles. Extras include a commentary from Boorman and an interview with Sara Kestleman (not seen by me). The film...What ca I say? I suppose I have seen it some 6 or 7 times since the original cinema release, and I still get great pleasure from every viewing. Is it important to understand the plot? Or can you just enjoy it for what it is - a wonderful mindblowing SciFi fantasy, beautifully filmed and led by a superb Connery in arguably the role he was born to play. Enjoy the colours, the landscape, the often dotty dialogue, John Alderon's performence, and lastly the Misses Rampling and Kestleman. A little bit of sex here and there, plenty of action, and mystery. That's how I see it. I don't think Boorman could make a "straight" film, and God Bless him for this. Highly recomended for lovers of Sean and the unusual. (P.S. I know I shouldn't say this but my DVD copy is pretty good too, so is the BLU RAY essential? - Probably is!)

Some great British actors given room to express themselves. John Boorman's direction is genius level

Zardoz
Take a sip whenever-Zed is doing an awkward light jog-Anyone says “praise be to zardoz”-Anyone gets groped (this happens far more often than it should)-Zed gets started by something-Anyone talks into their ring-A baguette is tossed-The word “tabernackle” is utteredBonus Drinking Rules For Anyone With A Death Wish-Take an extra sip whenever you get confused-Take a sip whenever Zardoz is mentioned (watch out because that’s the only word said for the first minute or so of the film)

A bit strange, but very gripping
Great story, it's very gripping for the word go.I saw it years ago as a kid and didn't really understand it, but for some reason it stuck with me.Years later something sparked the memory of the giant rock head ( no idea what ). Curiosity kicked in and as the movie is quite cheap I thought there's noting to loose.Glad I bought it. It's sort of strange in places, but at the same time works.Captures the idea of a brutal society living outside the bubble of a smaller society of the rich, the powerful and the clever. Outside the bubble it's about survival, inside the bubble they have reached the pinnacle of science and achieved immortality, but then they became stagnated, apathetic and bored of life itself. Then Zed( brutal from the outside ) got inside and that's when it all kicks off.Won't tell you any more as it will ruin it for you.

Strange film that seems to elude to a theme of reality never what you think it is .
Interesting cult film about how the elite control the world like an illusionist and a few brave people can change the order .
