Q: How do I store them and how long will they last, ie stay alive until fed to my garden birds that is?! Many thanks.

I decant mine from the bag to small plastic boxes with air holes (I use boxes that I have bought small quantities of meal worms in from reptile shops) but you could use take away boxes if you make air holes, but only a thin layer in each box. I add bran which I buy from a pet shop for 50p, I also add a few torn up pieces of egg box as the meal worms like to hide away in the crevices. I was told by the reptile shop that the meal worms don't eat the bran but it is more humane to give them something to crawl about in and to help stop them being squashed on top of each other. I add a few thin slices of carrot, which I change every few days or once it's been eaten. I keep my mealworms in a cool dark part of the shed. 500g easily goes in less than 2 weeks, but in hot weather I would put some in the bottom of my spare fridge for a few days. If excrement starts to build up I clean out the boxes and add fresh bran.

Expensive but work. 500g box ideal. I had a Robin eating out of my hand for days
