It was a rare Amazon finding for me. Even though I am not a genetics scientist, I was deeply moved by the stories about Dr. Li whose life spanned much of the 20th century. Dr. Li's experience can relate to many people like myself: born and educated in China, postgraduate study in America and dramatic twists in our work and family life. Through the stories of Dr. Li, the author revealed impact of many events on people's life, e.g. early academics in China, Japanese invasion, change of power to communism and events leading to cultural revolution. The book is written in Chinese with English references to names and literature. Highly recommend to anyone interested in reflecting on and learning from Dr. Li's experience as a great scientist, scholar and educator.
