Q: does this work with onkyo 626

Not sure what you mean by work with? It will work with virtually any stereo receiver, it just depends on how you want to hook it up. I have a Onkyo 626 and hook it's Zone 2 Speaker connections to the OSD input. From there I hooked in 7 other zones from around my house, which I can turn on and off with the OSD device. Only downside is the remote doesn't seem to be programmable by other devices, so you pretty much have to be physically in front of the box to switch on and off the zones.

Q: What does 2x source mean? And does it come with wires to connect to the receiver?

2x source means you can have 2 sources hooked up. You could have 2 different amplifiers connected as the sources. No, wires are not included with the speaker selector.

Q: When the unit is power cycled, does it retain it's last setting for each speaker zone? Or does it default to either 'on' or 'off' for each zone?

Yes, all settings are retained.
