Black Sails Season 4 [2017]

The greatest recent historical drama I have seen.
Easily one of the greatest dramatisiations of the period I have ever seen. A great addition to other works in the historical canon such as, Hornblower, Sharpe etc. Dare I say it, Toby Stevens gives a "perfect" perfomance...love, dismay, pity, anger, rage, remorse and pathos in equal and balanced measure, and Arnold is great as his quartermaster. Then there is the dynamic between Hannah New & Jessica Parker Kennedy, both very talented and beautiful people. Not to mention the incredible visuals, incredibly rendered ships/ports/seascapes, if you enjoy period dramas with excellent casting, directing and editing I cannot recommend this enough. Perhaps Toby Schmitz could have made a bit more of his role, but then this is most probably more due to the writing, sometimes he seems a little coy and not great in the heat of battle but then again writers need to have a bit of a 'panzy' to bolster the masculinity of the rest of the cast (including the members of the fairer gender).

Great show great season
Really fabulous series with season 4 being as good as the first three. The actors are all really fantastic. The weakest link is Hannah New, not well cast and not as good. The other lead actresses are nothing short of fantastic, and in particular Jessica Parker Kennedy is absolutely brilliant. The male actors are flabergastingly good. The story is great, superbly served by a tightly knit script, masterly directed and cut to swiss engineering precision. This is one of the best shows currently on.

Brilliant Final Series, A Must Watch
Black sails has grown with every season. The gratuitous nudity and strange sexual diversions of earlier seasons have been left behind (if not forgotten) in favour of an increasingly political clash of ideas.Season 4 successfully engages the warring imperial powers, the pirates, the colonial landholders, and their slave labourers all into something entertaining and in episodic form. It captures what made its inspiration-Treasure Island-great by blending elements of history with its mythology. Thrilling action scenes, shocking deaths, and heartfelt moments come fast and furious this season. The show was never going to go on forever, but it's going out with its sails full and its guns blazing. A real good watch and a must see for any Black Sails Fans

Want piracy, swashbuckling, humour, sex, and realistic LGBT characters? Black Sails is the show for you. (Spoilers ahead)
Incredible. Beautifully written and acted. It's a refreshing change to see a bisexual polyamorus man, a bi woman and a bi WOC sex worker as three main characters without any of them being stereotypes. Flint may be motivated by revenge for the death of his (male) lover but his storylines aren't about his sexuality. The same with Eleanor and Max. The sex workers are shown to have agency and to be working in that role because they want to. Racism may be rife because of the time period but it's dealt with well and with tact. I can't recommend this show enough. I want to be in Nassau. Partly because I've always wanted to be a pirate but also because it's so beautifully written and shot, the characters are three dimensional and it's all so believable. I can't stop watching. This is possibly the first time I've seen a character like myself; a bisexual polyamorus man who is committed to his partners and wants to change the world.

Terrific stuff.
A brilliant series, have enjoyed every minute of it. A shame it's been brought to a close, but I suppose all good things come to an end. The mix of historical fact and fiction worked, and the ships, settings, characters and storyline blended in together well. Congratulations to all the cast and crew, I've been riveted by this series. Thank you all.

Excellent series.
Enthralling and far better than the majority of historical drama out there. Has kept it's value for 4 seasons continuing to add worthwhile storyline and characters. Interesting character relations that have changed over the seasons staying in the boundaries of the show and not changing for the sake of plot.

All Good Things Come To An End
Despite having some reservations at the beginning of season 1 I stuck with it, and boy am I glad i did because this ranks - in my opinion - as one of the best series ever. Usually, with TV shows there are some dull episodes but not Black Sails, the dialogue, actors, sets etc were all fantastic. With the plot twists and turns, the double crossing and machiavellian characters, I just couldn't predict what was going to happen. I also loved the fact that the two leading women characters, Elenor and Max were just as ambitious, cunning and smart as any of the lead male characters and that they weren't portrayed as archetypal bitches. So sad it's ended but, all good things come to an end...or has it? Bring on Treasure Island.

This is TV gold. By an engaging fiction and a cast of beauties, we are transported to a hellacious age of struggle. I wonder if this should also be called Black Soliloquy as each character is given to argumentation on the subjects of freedom, independence and governance. In lesser productions this might be a drag but all that is forgiven; this could be the first to dwell substantially on the slavery that went hand in hand with the imperial and colonial aspirations of that period.
