Very nice quality. 50 colors for $29.95 a very fair price.

Very nice - Edited
I'm going to preface my review by saying that I'm not an artist, and I don't have a lot of experience with pastel chalk in pencil form. I like the relative simplicity of using pastel chalk as backgrounds in my adult coloring books, but I don't really like some of the side effects. Pastel chalk can just be messy. Due to a lack of dexterity, I've dropped the box of pastels a few times, and trying to get everything back in the box wasn't easy, or fun. My previous experience with pastel chalk pencils is just a few purchased from Dick Blick's online open stock catalog of a couple brands. And, I think there are less than a dozen. I've been wanting a set for a while, so I could have a better variety of colors. I've been seeing quite a few people give Kalour products quite a bit of positive reviews. The tin is a very nice one with a hinged lid. The individual pencils are both named and numbered. Kalour includes a nice swatch chart. The first tray in my tin was in order from right to left, but the second was in order from left to right. I hate swatching, but actually swatched the set right away. None of the pencils felt super scratchy on the swatch chart. I thought they felt a little better when each color was laid down in a vertical set of strokes, instead of horizontal. It took three light coats of Krylon matte fixative to stop the chalk on the swatch chart from smearing. I used a few on the background of a picture from a Creative Haven book. It only took one coat of the same spray stop the chalk from transferring. One of the pencils did feel a little bit scratchy on the Dover Publications paper, but not enough to be a deal breaker. Milage may vary on different paper types; some may require more than one light coat. Individuals using this set for actual serious art may need a higher-end art fixative. Overall, I'm pretty pleased with my purchase.Edited (12-22-23): After using the set for quite a few coloring pages, I have a bit more feedback. If Kalour expands the set, I'd like:- Payne's Grey is one of my favorite Polychromos colors. The dark blue grey is great for shading quite a few colors. I'd like to see both a darker and lighter blue grey added here.- Both a lighter and dark neutral grey.- A lighter blue.- A lighter blue violet. Lilac or lavender sort of color.

Decent for beginners!
The media could not be loaded. I bought these formy daughter who is a beginner and wants to learn realistic pet portraits. I would say these pastel pencils are decent for beginners, but they do have some drawbacks. The leads breaks easily which can be frustrating! The colors are not as vibrant as I would like. Overall they are ok for starting out but you may want to upgrade to higher quality set as your skills improve. She used these pencils on strathmore 400 series pastel paper.

Really like them.
Great colors. I like the convenience of a pastel in a pencil. Easy to use. Blends beautifully. Excellent addition to my coloring medium. A little bit messy. I love using them.

Not the best
The pastel chalk pencil colors are really pretty. However, they are extremely messy and difficult to control. When I put the color down and a little dust gets on my page, I can usually just blow on them and they don't cause a problem. With these the color sticks to the rest of the page. They are also difficult to build color, unless you are able to use in a really large space. I will still use them when I need to, especially now that I know the way they work because the colors are nice. Just know there is a learning curve and you might not be able to use in many coloring situations. Wouldn't recommend for beginners.
