The Addams Family [DVD] [1991]

What a stone cold classic! This is one of the first movies I ever remember seeing as a kid, literally one of my earliest memories from visiting my grandmother, it was playing on the TV.The Addams Family film is just like fine wine, it only gets better with age. So many gags and jokes that resonate to this very day. The humor is tongue-(planted firmly)-in-cheek, but it's all played with such macabre earnestness that just brings me such delight. It's hard to focus on any one cast member, everyone's killing it (literally and figuratively) every moment on screen.A great reason to pick up this version, is to watch an extended version of the movie that includes a portion of the dance number that Gomez and Fester do that was originally cut out, the Mamushka! sequence. This scene is extended and is actually really great! My partner's a die-hard Addams Family nut and was pleasantly surprised by this addition. One, it's more screentime with Raul Julia (who passed away too soon and embodies Gomez with 100% of his being, a pleasure to watch), and two, it's just a downright delightful dance/musical number. It clearly took a long time to shoot the complicated sequence and the director, Barry Sonnenfeld, lamented that it was cut for time in the first place on a video segment that's viewable on the Blu-ray.Do yourself a favor and pick this up, if you or a loved one is an Addams Family fan!
