My wife ordered this, actually. My first reaction was something along the lines of "Thirty quid for a nutcracker? Have you lost your marbles?". (Yes, in retrospect, this was a missed opportunity, and I should have said "Are you nuts?") We already had our run-of-the mill nutcracker, which was fine except that it required a bit of trial and error to line up a walnut, and 50% of the time, the edible bit would fly off under the sofa. So, enter the Drosselmeyer. I had to eat my words on this one. It's great. Firstly, the presentation is just amazing. It's a quality item - solid cast metal, in a handsome presentation box. You could easily give this as a gift to a post nut-o-phile friend, and no eyebrows would be raised. Using it is really easy, too: just drop the nut into the tube and squeeze the handle. The position of the hinge is such that you need much less pressure than you'd expect (with my geeky hat on, I could say that it's a class 2 lever rather than the class 3 action of a normal nutcracker). And, of course, the bits stay in the tube rather than skittering across the floor. A final example of how brilliant this little item is: our 2.5-year-old toddler had no problem using it. I'd wager that your arthritic aunt Aggie would manage it, too. PS: We have found that nuts can be cracked with much less effort if the device is held 'backwards' - that is, wrap the fingers around the tubular bit, with the metal handle pointing towards the palm. This spreads out the pressure, so your fingers are more comfortable.

Not something I use often but I can't imagine even having to replace this. Far better than the traditional nut crackers you get in the UK and like them there are certain techniques for different nuts. A lot less messy than the traditional style, a lot easier to use and, in my opinion, better results and you feel more in control. It's looks pretty great too :)

I'm very happy with my Drosselmeyer NC17 Nutcracker. It's sturdy and well-made, and it cracks nuts easily without breaking them. I've used it to crack a variety of nuts, including hazelnuts, walnuts, and almonds, and it's worked great for all of them. I'm especially impressed with how durable it is. I've dropped it a few times, but it hasn't shown any signs of damage. Overall, I'm very happy with this nutcracker and would definitely recommend it to others.

A great nut cracker and does almost everything a good nutcracker should do. Easy to use, cracks most nuts cleanly and retains most of the bits. It still struggles with Brazil nuts and yes it cracks them but actually crushes them. Great for Walnuts, Hazel nuts and Almonds. Very expensive for a nutcracker!

This is really is THE best but cracker one can buy. And I’ve cracked a few nuts in my time! I was brought up as a child to crack/eat nuts at Christmas time. I have never come across a nut cracker that works well and is easy to use. Either the nut goes flying across the room or you end up yelping when one of your fingers gets trapped in the cracker. Not any more. Believe me when I say that this is the best nut cracker you will find. Yes, it’s not cheap but you get what you pay for. And the bonus is it’s beautiful to look at too!

Certainly the best I've ever used. Purchased this particular one for a Christmas present having bought my own last year and found is so effective and easy to use. Opens walnuts and Brazil nuts with ease, and all the shell bits stay inside the cup. Almonds can be challenging, but I think they often are unless using a sledgehammer! In summary, a really good nutcracker, and worth the price as it should give excellent service for many years.

Es ist schon viel Gutes über ihn geschrieben worden, deshalb habe ich ihn bestellt. Ich habe ihn gestern ausgepackt und es ist Liebe auf den ersten Blick und Drücker. Dieses Jahr habe ich sehr viele Nüsse gesammelt: Walnüsse, "gemeine" Haselnüsse, Lambertnüsse und Baum Haselnüsse. Richtig versorgt (gewaschen, einlagig getrocknet, kühl, trocken und abgedunkelt gelagert) sind Nüsse in ihrer Schale eine perfekte Konserve, MHD 1-2 Jahre. Doch wie kommt man bei Bedarf genussvoll und bei grossem Bedarf in Würde und bei Kräften an die inneren Leckereien? Und wie bleibt die Nuss heile ohne in einem Gebrösel von spitzen Schalensplittern und mehr oder weniger zermatschten Nussfleischstückchen unterzugehen? Ich habe mich auf die Suche begeben. Bei so vielen Nüssen brauche ich unbedingt eine gut praktikable Lösung, sonst bleiben sie erfahrungsgemäss ungenutzt und unverzehrt liegen und ich hätte sie besser den Eichhörnchen gelassen. Ein Jammer (für mich) denn jeder, der schon einmal frische Nüsse geknackt hat weiss, wie unglaublich lecker sie schmecken. Kein Vergleich zu den wann auch immer geschälten, in Tüten abgepackten, womöglich schon zerstückelten oder geriebenen aus dem Supermarkt. Beim Stöbern bin ich schnell auf Herrn Drosselmeyer gestossen. Er hat mich sofort fasziniert. Komplett anders als Alle die ich bisher kenne. Wirkt auf mich auf den Bildern wie ein stylischer, superschlanker Kaffeebecher und viel grösser, als er de facto ist. Ein Rezensent schrieb, dieser Nussknacker sei untauglich, weil er keine grossen Walnüsse fasse. Ich habe regionale, heimische Nüsse gesammelt. V.a. Dingen im Schwarzwald und am Kaiserstuhl. Von ganz vielen unterschiedlichen Bäumen und Sträuchern. Die gesammelten Nüsse variieren von Grösse XS bis XL, ausgemessen bis zu 3,8 x 2,8 cm, was ein recht stattliches Format ist. Die passen gerade noch rein. Vielleicht hat der erwähnte Rezensent XXL Nüsse aus Californien knacken wollen, was der Schwede glatt verweigert hat. Nicht nur Grösse, v.a. Dicke und Härte der Nuss Schale sind eine Herausforderung für den Knacker. Ich habe von allen drei europäischen Gattungen der Haselnuss gesammelt: Der "gemeinen" oder "gewöhnlichen" Hasel, der Lambertnuss und der Baum Haselnuss. Letztere ist mit ihrem vielfach bestücktem Fruchtbecher und dessen langen, geschwungenen Wimpern äusserst dekorativ, und zudem essbar. Sie hat allerdings eine dicke, sehr harte, holzige Schale. Kein Problem für Drosselmeyer. Er knackt auch sie mühelos und lässt dabei den Nusskern ganz. Kurz und gut: gemeinsam mit Herrn Drosselmeyer blicke ich sehr zuversichtlich in den kommenden Winter und die herannahende Weihnachtszeit, in der einige meiner Nuss Vorräte zu Verarbeitung und Vernaschung gelangen werden. Er ist nicht nur ein schöner, er ist ein äusserst freundlicher (um sich an/mit ihm zu verletzen, müsste man sich richtig anstrrengen) und sehr hilfreicher Schwede.. Facts in Kürze: Material: robust, vertrauenserweckend Design: innovativ, pfiffig, formschön, bestechend schlicht Funktionalität: handlich, will geradezu in die Hohlhand, wo er perfekt hineinpasst. Eine intelligente Lösung. Durch den Hebel lässt sich der ausgeübte Druck gut dosieren und es gelingt tatsächlich die Nusskerne, ach wie herrlich, ganz zu erhalten. Dass die Schalen nicht überall herumspritzen, sondern im Becher aufgefangen werden, ist ebenso genial. Farbe: Ich habe mich für rot entschieden. Ein schönes warmes rot. Wenn Herr Drosselmeyer auf einem mit Nüssen gefüllten Korb liegt, sieht die ganze Komposition sehr warm und einladend aus. Eine wunderbare Geschenkidee, für sich selbst und andere Lieben..
