Logitech MK260
The product does what it says on the tin. It is a wireless mouse and keyboard which includes in the packaging the appropriate batteries. AAA for the keyboard and AA for the mouse. They are very easy to install on my Windows XP computer and so far I have had no problems with reception of signal. The keyboard itself does not take too much space with a few extra control buttons above the function keys for sound, email, PC off and calculator. I was using a wired multimedia keyboard before which was larger and had a wrist support which this unit does not. Also the K260 does not have any LEDs to state Num/shift lock etc which I am also use to and see as an omition although I am sure this may be why they state the keyboard batteries last for 2 years. The mouse is basic but practical. Not the most comfy I have come across but also not the worst. It is not heavy with most of its weight coming from the battery. Battery life 5 months although not tested. The communication with the PC is via a USB dongle which works very well. My disapointment though is in its size. The dongle sticks out about 3.5cm from the USB socket once inserted which I was not expecting as I thought it would be a micro dongle as I have seen with other Wireless mice. The port that I was going to use on my PC which is behind a door, therefore cannot be used and I am using alternative port. For laptops or PCs with larger amount of USB ports at the rear this would not be a problem.I would recommend this package provided these minor items are not part of the way you wish to work. I have not seen if Logitech have a similar alternative that does provided lights and small dongle. So far I am happy with the product and will live with it, but if needed to change or get another one would look for my complete requirement list to be ticked off.

A step backwards
I bought the MK260 after losing the mouse from my MK250 (which can no longer be found on Amazon), which I now regret doing all the more. The range for both the mouse and keyboard of the MK260 does not exceed 2 metres, at which distance the signal is patchy at best, which makes the keyboard useless for me, as I had intended to use it to control my laptop from across the room - something which was perfectly possible with the MK250. Even more absurd, the MK260's keyboard will not work at *any* distance if the keyboard is not facing the receiver! The mouse is still usable as long as it is as close as a wired mouse would be, but certainly not worth the £18 on its own.Another annoyance is the removal of on/off switches from both devices, in contrast with the MK250. This means when I'm only using either the mouse or the keyboard, the other can be accidentally pressed/moved - quite annoying if I'm watching a video with keyboard controls and happen to nudge the mouse. I imagine the reason for removing the switches was so people didn't feel the need to turn them off to save battery life. Certainly, this wasn't necessary with the MK250, the mouse of which could last around 4 months without switching off. However, after only one month I've already had to replace the batteries in the MK260's mouse! How they managed to reduce both signal strength and battery life I don't know.On the plus side, this model includes dedicated media keys, whereas the MK250 used a laptop-style function combination key; the keys on the right-hand side (arrows, insert, home etc) are less cramped; and the mouse's scroll wheel is slightly quieter, and its buttons feel firmer. These improvements don't make up for the major basic performance reductions, however. If you want a great, cheap wireless kb+mouse combination, look for the MK250.

Surprisingly good for the price!
Wow...at under £20 I really wasn't expecting this keyboard and mouse to be this good! The keyboard has a very standard layout which I like. The keys have just the right amount of firmness and give, with minimal rattle. The flip-out feet have rubber soles which allows the keyboard to stay nicely planted. Only downside is the lack of CapsLock/ScrollLock/NumLock indicators, but these days that's really not a huge issue as you typically get these notifications reported on-screen by the OS drivers. The mouse is very responsive and accurate, while the scroll wheel has a subtle notchy feel to it. My only complaint is the lack of weight, even with the single AA battery loaded. Definitely not in the same class as my Logitech V450 laser mouse I use at work, but at this price I really can't complain. The dongle isn't the nano-dongle that Logitech supplies with its more expensive devices, but it's not overly huge either. Personally I wouldn't use it on a laptop (unless you plan to plug/unplug it constantly), but for a desktop or laptop docking station it should remain unobtrusive. On Windows 7 (64-bit) both keyboard and mouse were recognised instantly, no drivers seemingly required.Batteries...well, they come supplied and according to the documentation the mouse should last about 5 months on a single alkaline AA, and the keyboard should last 2 years on two alkaline AAAs. If that's even remotely accurate, I really wouldn't bother with rechargeables which typically won't hold their charge anywhere nearly as long.
