Orbeez Water Beads, One and Only Micro Mix, Over 2000 Micro Purple and 500 Regular Teal, Sorting Tool, Sensory Toys for Kids Ages 5 and Up

This review is for the ORBEEZ Micro Mix (Purple and Teal). I received a free taxable sample of this Orbeez mix to review in my search for items that could be used for an elementary school-aged gift.The Orebeez come fully grown in a branded 8 3/4" x 4 1/4" transparent plastic container with a slightly larger blue plastic lid. What's neat is that there is a raised circular area on the bottom of the container which serves as lidded storage area for the mini scooper. The lid for the storage area also serves as a handy almost flat spoon to help scoop up the Orbeez. The kit comes tightly sealed with a foil wrapper, and the total weight of the container, scooper, and the Orbeez is 825 grams. Important note: the seal from the container lid is not watertight, so water will leak out if you tilt the container too much to the side or upside down.Removing the container lid and then the foil wrapper reveals two sections of fully grown Orbeez: purple minis measuring about 1/8" in diameter; and regular-sized teal ones measuring about 1/4" in diameter. There is a blue divider taking up approximately 3/4 of the container that can be removed and allow the two sections to mix. The included mini scooper is designed with large holes that will trap the standard-sized beads and allow the micro beads to fall through the bottom of the scoop. Theoretically you can just restrict your play to the container, but that might lead to a large cleanup job as the Orbeez may easily jump out of an almost full container.I have to admit, we are behind the popularity curve when it comes to Orbeez as this was our first experience with them in any significant quantity. They are quite squishy and slippery with some bounce to them - almost as if they had a mind of their own. As the one who has to clean up around the house, I like that the Orbeez don't stick to carpet and are easy to clean up - worst comes to worst you can let them dry out and then vacuum them up. That being said, it still helped to prepare a fairly wide and deep playing surface for the younger testers as they squeezed, mashed, poured, tossed, and played every which way with these fun beads. One of the activities all of the testers enjoyed was pouring a stream of Orbeez over our hands and enjoying the tactile spa-like sensation of immersing our hands in the beads and having them massage our hands.Overall, the ORBEEZ micro mix is a fun and enjoyable set of micro and standard-sized beads of fun. I'm not sure what we'll do with them when their time is up (beads for indoor plants?), but I do recommend them as a nice option as a toy or gift for elementary school-aged children, especially ones that enjoy sensory toys.

Water beads are SO fun for kids for all ages, and these are no exception! My toddler niece was absolutely mesmerized by them, and they held her attention for much longer than most activities. They're nice quality, the two sizes are fun, and the colors are beautiful. The biggest downside is the packaging, which is hard to open and overcomplicated.It's convenient that these water beads come already hydrated, so there's no prep time at all before play. Except that you have to get into the packaging! The outside plastic label was difficult to remove, then the plastic box was hard to get open, and then the inside foil seal was also a pain to remove...yeesh. I understand why you wouldn't want this box with its 2000 tiny beads to accidentally burst open, but I definitely recommend getting it open before you show it to your little one!The box is also VERY full, so it's necessary to pour the beads into a larger container for play. Especially because they are very bouncy and will get scattered everywhere unless contained! The tiny beads are particularly hard to pick up if they escape, so keep a paper towel at hand to help grab them.I didn't think that these water beads broke easily compared to other generic ones I've used. They can be broken, but it takes quite a lot of pressure - it won't happen in the course of normal play with them.

My daughter loves toys that have a sensory element to them, like kinetic sand. I had seen Orbeez before and thought she would love them, but I waited to get them for her until she was five. This definitely seems like the appropriate age for this product as these little water beads can be very harmful if swallowed and will fit into nose/ears if given the chance. As such, this should definitely be a supervised play activity. I love that the Orbeez come in a container that can be closed and stored when not in use. My daughter loved the sorting tool and being able to scoop out the Orbeez and mix them. I'm sure I'll be getting asked a lot to bring these out for play.

I, as a parent, don't personally understand this product, but that doesn't seem to matter. It is a HIT with our elementary school-aged child. They love playing with these, and just generally feeling the orbeez with their hands. They can apparently be both fun and relaxing. -- My child wants more!

Not quite sure what the point of the packaging was supposed to be... but the little gel beads are pretty cool

Orbeez, I only found out about 'water beads' in the past year. They are really fun. And toddlers love them in the tub. So it's a fun toy. Here you get 2000 micro purple and 500 regular teal. This is a good container to reseal them in. So these will be a hit with young kids all around.

My kids loved them. Just wish the container was a little taller, the orbeez spill over very easily. My kids did also mention, the purple ones were slightly harder than the others.

These arrive fully hydrated - they're not the seeds where you add water to hydrate. So these are ready to play with right out of the container.We had a good two days of fun before they started to break up a little, but there was a lot of play in those two days too.

My 8 year old daughter adores Orbeez - there's just something fun and a little bit weird about them that makes you want to just squish them. I find that even I can't help myself, though I liken them to handling frog spawn. This particular set come in regular and micro sizes - they're wet, squishy and bouncy.....very freaking bouncy! We had an explosive moment when my daughter dropped a handful and they bounced off in all directions of the kitchen, like the little blighters were frantically making a break for freedom. No doubt I'll be finding, and treading on them for days! Anyway, they come nicely presented in a large tub which is separated through the centre to divide the 2 kinds of Orbeez. There's a nifty sorting cup attached to the bottom of the tub - you can use this to separate the Orbeez once playing has ceased. Notice I used the word 'you' there? That's because at this point, you won't see your child for dust and the sorting and clearing away will suddenly become someone else's problem. If it helps, don't overload the sorting cup - not unless you want those Orbeez making a break for it! I see people on the net filling bathtubs with these things. How on earth do they clean them up? How do they not bounce everywhere? Seriously, I can't even imagine. It's all good squishy fun at the end of the day, at a reasonable price and kids love them.

I can see why those with sensory challenges love these, they feel so squishy and tactile.In this pack you get 2500 (2000 small purple and 500 regular teal).I have put them in a vase as an ornamental display which is really effective but there are lots of different uses for them.
