Songs In A Minor

I purchased this album for Mama Jane, as the copy she originally had years ago eventually got a bunch of spots where it started skipping, so I asked her if I could find her a new copy, and she gladly said yes. Alicia Keys is one of those girls whose music is so amazing. Her voice is so full of soul and sweet emotion. She can even tell when you're feelin' blue, as she does for both of us. Even better, I love the way she plays the piano! Her sweet tones make me feel at ease and she even writes lyrics that are straight from her heart! One of the songs I like on there is "All Your Troubles", which is like a soothing piece of advice for me. It's like she's telling me, "Just let go of your worries and take it slow.". I wish I could meet her one day and show her some of the music that I write! I bet she's a sweet lovin' woman! I give this album a solid 5 stars!

Excellent colour pressing of a great album.

This is the debut that made a legend out of a young, classically trained pianist, by the name of Alicia Keys. It was the song "Fallin'" (from this album) that established her as the brilliant, musical genius that she is, to the general public. I have heard that song on a variety of formats of radio stations (R&B, soft pop, adult contemporary). This is just a representation of her accessibility and cross-over appeal as an artist. Of course, Alicia is far from a one hit wonder. That is made evident in "How Come U Don't Call Me Anymore" (her interpretation of the song written by Prince, as an ode to love lost) and "A Woman's Worth" (where she lays the groundwork for relationships and how it is about "give" and take"). It is Keys' combination of musical interpretation, prolific lyrical ability, soulful voice and vast range of influences (who include Stevie Wonder and Aretha Franklin, among others), that give her the staying power as an entertainer. The three songs mentioned above are just the tip of the iceberg. You need to listen to the ENTIRE album to really get the full experience....I highly reccomend this CD.

This is an excellent CD by one of my favorite artists! The CD arrived on time and in excellent condition! It’s also an added bonus to be able to add this to my Amazon Music! 🎼

My first reaction to this cd was that her voice is great, but the music and lyrics are SOMEwhat lacking (good, but not great). I think she is much like Mariah Carey, though, in the sense that her voice (and Alicia's piano playing) is more suited to ballads, and acoustic music than to the more "pop" or "funk" or whatever you want to call it music that they do. I would love to see Alicia do an album of just her singing her own songs with little more than a piano, bass, and drums for accompaniment, as in the "Unplugged" series of concerts. In other words, I think her singing and piano playing is too good to waste on the pop arrangements she's doing... (Just so you know where I'm coming from, I loved Mariah Carey's first 3 albums, but after she started doing a lot of hip-hop and dance music, she lost me. I hope Alicia Keys goes the opposite route, and switches from dance/pop to ballads and acoustic music.)

stunning album - love how it sounds on vinyl.

I think this is the best Alicia Keys album to date and it is also one of the most important albums in R&B/ Soul music history. More than ten years has past after its release but I still can listen to this album from beginning till end again and again. Now its vinyl verson comes out and it is awsome! Have to grab a copy back home and add it into my music collection. It is worth the money! Love you, Alicia~~~
