Great upgrade to Dewalt's best brushless compact drill
I have several of the older model, and one of them finally gave up the ghost after heavy use for six years. This drill seems to be about as powerful but smaller in most dimensions, and most importantly, a little shorter from drill bit tip to the back of the drill, so it will fit in tighter spaces. I've noticed that the clutch setting needs to be higher, for example up from 7 to 11, to get the same joint tightness (using GRK-type fasteners in oak) as before. So maybe the torque is lower, or the clutch is looser. (If they redesigned the clutch I wouldn't be surprised, that's what blew on my older drill.)

Happy With this Purchase
This drill is compact, easy to handle, and has more than enough power for common household projects. The balance feels right in hand, and the brushless motor runs smoothly. It’s a reliable tool that performs consistently without being bulky.

Great purchase.
Very pleased with this purchase. My previous drill, Rigid subcompact served me well for many years but unfortunately bit the dust when I used it trying to power a hydraulic trailer mover (obviously not built for such a task). My new Dewalt is an excellent replacement and I'm looking forward to many years of service. Only knock against it was I had to buy separate charger and batteries. Fortunately, I was able to pick them up on Amazon for a good price.

No Box, But That's OL
I try to write my reviews with information I would want if I was considering a purchase, so here goes... I'd read several reviews stating that the writers had received drills that were obviously not NEW; no box, photocopied manuals, missing parts and scratches and fingerprints on the tools. Afterward, they had trouble with the sellers when they tried to get the NEW product they thought they were paying for. To try to avoid such issues, I decided to spend a few dollars more and choose the seller with the highest satisfaction rating and fulfillment and shipping by Amazon, believing that if something is supposed to be new, they'd ensure that it is and even if something did go wrong it would be much easier to resolve through Amazon. My process seems to have been right. The drill I received did not come in the standard yellow DeWalt box, but is otherwise BRAND NEW in a factory-sealed and labelled plastic bag with the tool itself in bubble wrap (no scratches or fingerprints), an original manual (in its own sealed bag) and the belt clip and attachment screw in the little sealed zip-lock bag it's supposed to come in. I ban EASILY live without the box, especially since it would cost $43+ more at a big-box store and will be thrown away in a few weeks anyway. No cardboard box is worth $43. As for the drill itself, it's terrific! I'm not a pro, just a homeowner. I've had a B&D 3/8" drill for years and it works fine but it doesn't have the power and torque this one does, some of my drill bit won't fit in it and it's longer than this one, sometimes making it difficult or impossible to get into tight spaces. By the way, don't believe the stated width in the specs - this tool is REALLY only 2.4" wide. I also have a DeWalt Atomic impact driver that will remove and attach lug nits and put a screw right through two pieces of 2X pressure-treated lumber if you're not careful but I don't always need THAT much power and torque, so for quicky household tasks this little 1/2" drill/driver is going to do just fine. Hope all this helps someone.

something isn't quite right ...
I originally placed an order for this on September 4, 2024, but, checking the order status 2 days before the scheduled delivery, it had not been shipped and nor had my account been debited. Reading some of the reviews, I thought was a bit suspicious and cancelled the order. Two days later, I found the same model for $AUD37 cheaper and still shipped by Amazon US so I placed an order again. This time my account was debitted and the order status showed it was being shipped. It was delivered yesterday in a pretty beaten up unbranded cardboard box containing a New Price/Tool Haven branded plastic bag with a 'with compliments' slip inside. There was no padding in the box, but it did arrive with what looks like it is a genuine Dewalt instruction manual and the beltt clip. Oh, and www.newpriceinc.com is 'unavailable' due to site maintenance and www.toolhaven.com doesn't exist. I have about a dozen DeWalt power tools and they ALWAYS arrive in a DeWalt branded box, and, often with a sticker with either the build date or serial number or both stuck to it somewhere. DeWalt tools must be registered online to be able to claim any warranty beyond the 12 month warranty provided by Australian consumer law. There is a build date where the battery clicks in and a model number, but no serial number I can find anywhere. This unit was made in Mexico late last year. Also, the model number is unusual in my experience with other DeWalt power tools. Typically, DeWalt model numbers include a suffixx which can identify whether the tool is skin only, part of a kit, or for a particular market. For example, DWE7491-RS or DCN680N-XJ. The model for this unit is DCD794 TY1 which returns no results from a Google search. I note, too, that the price has jumped $AUD47 since I placed the second order. However, having said all this, the drill is solidly built and exceeded my initial expectations with regards to speed control and power. It's just that there are a few things about this purchase like there being no serial number and it being poorly packed without DeWalt branding that are slightly odd in my opinion which is why I have rated this only 3 stars.
