But not so after the release of Protection, which sported a massive hit and was just as critically acclaimed as their first album. (The hit was the title track, for which Everything but the Girl's Tracy Thorn lent her divine pipes--a move that presaged EBTG's move to the dance floor.) Eschewing the showmanship of their scene mates, Massive prefer subtler soundscapes and using a diverse range of vocalists (including Horace Andy, Nicolette, and Tricky) who give them a number of flavours and moods with which to work. Protection is an understated album with a rich palette; it reveals more of itself on repeated listens, growing better--and deeper--each time. --Randy Silver

Two songs are perfect.
The two tracks Everything But The Girl are involved in, tracks #1 and #6, are more than worth the purchase of this album. Just a couple of those rare 'perfect' songs. The rest of this cd is pretty good, some nice rhythmic beats mad mixes there. As soon as the "rappers" resurface on tracks this cd turns ridiculous. You protest out loud to no one in the room, "How can this terrible song be on the same cd as those few perfect gems?"I have no idea what the last track was trying to accomplish, some live performance of 'Come on baby light my fire'' or similar. It's gut wrenching awful.Highly recommend this cd, some good things in here.

Five stars recommend.
This is fantastic, great music & good sound quality(barring sibilance on so tracks but, this is true ofboth the vinyl & the CD so, must be evident on themaster tapes!).This is perfect for anyone who's the thinking of getting into this band.Recommended five stars.

Not the best , but still great
Possibly the weakest of Massive Attack's album's , still some killer tunes on there , most notably Eurochild. I miss Tricky on the later albums. Not up to Mezzanine standard's , but still worth buying. Afterall Massive Attack still way above other artists.

Great, but expensive if you want it sealed
Not the best MA album but close. They have made so many amazing albums, Especially 3D, who makes most of their music.Great album and a must for all MA fans, quite expensive though, I only wanted the CD as I'd lost mine. I wanted it for the box set of this album and the Mad Professor remix one.8/10My favourite is of defo Mezzanine. Then Heligoland, Which is quite controversial as people wrote that one off for some strange reason.
