Excellent and informative.
I have wanted this book since it was first announced, and it is definitely worth the wait. As the title suggests, it is a review of the last of the British Propeller driven fighters, with each given it's own chapter with a good selection of photos. The book begins with a chapter on engine development, followed by one on propeller development before moving on to the planes themselves.Despite being a technical subject, I found it very well written and easy to read and understand, and I learned a lot.Highly recommended.

The book title says it all; it will be a collector's item.
I have only read a small part of it, but, looking through the book, it is a comprehensive and fascinating history of the last and best of British piston-engined fighters.

Authoritative and well illustrated
Another Tony Butler masterpiece, he manages to mix little known perspective with documented facts and excellent photos in order to make what is essentially a historical work into a readable story. In doing so he highlights the incompetence and siloed thinking of the MOD, making it abundantly clear that 80 years later nothing has changed!

Excellent book
A wonderful book on a fascinating subject. Great pictures, informative and insightful text. Many types dealt with in significant depth but if your personal interest is more focused on only one of the coveted types than might not be to your tastes. Personally I thought dealing with types together gave more context and insight (more of a good thing). Highly recommended.

Excellent book
Excellent book about an amazing group of aeroplanes. Actually a book always wanted (but could never define). Compare (say) a 1939 Hurricane or 1940 P 36 and see how far and how fast technology had progressed. The author states that this book allowed him to write about some of his favorite aircraft - well, he took the opportunity & produced a great book !. These aircraft are also among "my favorites" - the author has really done a nice job (book layout, format, quality is all excellent as well). 5 stars & recommend.
