I am Maximus; No, I am Maximus...
A brilliant, light and comfortable barefoot sandal. Fits true to size, looks sleek (think Maximus) and has the grip of a mountain goat. I did a lot of research before buying these and was not disappointed. The quality is great and you can wear them all day and everywhere in the heat, I love them. You don't really notice they are on and your feet stay cool due to the barefoot design. They take a bit of getting used to as there is no arch support and the sole is very thin compared to say a Birkenstock but that's not the point of these. I would highly recommend.

My favourite hiking sandals!
If you like the Z-Trek, but find the soles a little too hard on your feet then these are the sandals for you! I love my Z-Treks but I've found I have to be real careful when I start wearing them again after winter or else I might get blisters. The soles of these is much more softer and forgiving so I get the fresh feel of the Z-Trek but with a much more softer step. I use these to get my feet used to the sandals again so after a couple of weeks I can safely wear the Z-Treks without worrying about blisters. Also if I know I have a long trek I would go for these instead. Since they are actually lighter than the Treks I carry these as my camp ground sandals over the Treks.

Comfortable but toe splay limited with this design
Really minimal environmentally conscious packaging impressed me for a start. They are very comfortable, and having worn barefoot shoes for a couple of months, these zero drop sandals are a definite improvement on the traditional heel-toe drop of the much more rigid Teva's that I previously used. So that's a positive. They aren't quite as flexible in the sole as I had expected, compared with other barefoot models, but they feel quite spongey and I can imagine would feel like having a spa at the end of a long walking adventure, after you have changed out of your hiking boots. They are a little bit fiddly to get the balance of tightness right across all of the buckles but I can live with this, since they seem to stick, which (whilst it makes initial adjustment tricky) means the are less likely to adjust themselves while being worn. One downside though for a sandle made for walking, and the reason I haven't given them 5-stars, is that the front strap on a shoe of this design WILL continue to keep your big toe pointing in towards your other toes, preventing it from splaying. It is essentially recreating a relatively tight 'toe box' area. I think the design could be improved by not having one continuous strap, but two, with the toe strap being independent of the rest of the straps and adjustable with velcro. That way, the wearer could choose a looser fitting toe strap, whilst being able to tighten the rest of the sandle independently. This is where I think the cheaper Xero Cloud sandle (with it's thong-like toe post) might score more highly, if you are simply looking for a holiday sandle you can throw on for every day wear. I have ordered those too, and think they will allow my does to move more freely, which is really the objective of footwear that respects the natural movement of your feet. Just my opinion after looking at my toes bunched together in these shoes. I would probably not want to walk long distances in these, but instead wear a proper (breathable) shoe or boot. But for holidays, to the beach or pool, or wild swimming etc, or on a campsite as camping "slippers" they will be perfect (but at £80, versus the £50 Xero Clouds, you would need to like them a lot for the extra spend).

The most comfortable sandal I have ever had

Awful for me
They look ok but they give me really sore feet I just can’t wear them. Mostly, I am trying to wear them around the city. I had tried wearing them in for a few hours at home but given up after a few months and also the number of time I almost fell. Never had a shoe that I slipped in a lot :(

Comfort and grip
Comfortable to walk in. Can be slippy on wet tiles be careful when in that situation Okay for walking on beach or campsite. I wouldn't go rock climbing with them or using them on greasy rocks like at seaside or riverside.

Top of the flops
Should I be this pleased with a pair of sandals? Well - maybe. I’ve tried most. Don’t get me wrong, I do like the Birks but they tend to smell a bit after a year or so. Also - you can really jog to holiday supermarket or play football with the kids with them. These, on the other hand have it all. They’re basically flip flops on steroids that don’t fall off your feet. Your feet are protected all round and hardly even notice you’re wearing something. The design is sleek and the minimalist appearance is classy. True to size, lightweight and overall, good value for money if you wait for the pricing to change.

A great product
I have had mine since May 2023 and it’s now July 2026. I wear them almost all the time. They are comfortable and only now starting to wear through the sole. I have just ordered a new pair

Surprisingly comfortable
I purchased these as a water shoe for backpacking. They're light, and small, I figured they'd get me across the crossings and not much else. Little did I realise they would be a great hiking shoe. I ended up carrying my trail runners and hiking in these. Hopefully they hold up.

Expensive simplicity worth the money
I was sceptical at first when I put the sandals on. Nothing more than flip flops with different attachment strings I thought. Overpriced perhaps? Oh, yeah. Big time! The experience of walking in them on park trails is priceless though and so is using the muscles my body forgot about ages ago.

Pés agradecem
Não sabia que eu andava com os pés entortados até usar essas sandálias. Ela força a pisada completa da planta dos pés no chão. Faço tudo com elas. São resistentes e firmes. Solado aderente. Não escorrega fácil. Deixa o corpo estável ao caminhar.

Lightweight, Flexible, Minimalist - Velcro could be stronger
The Xero sandal has been great. I love the minimalist design as I really enjoy just being barefoot, but for a sandal, it's the next best thing. Good tread pattern on the bottom helps with grip and the many points of adjustment allow the user to fit it perfectly to their feet. My only qualm is the velcro on the heal strap is not strong enough/has pulled away from keeping the entire strap secure, it halfway fastens and the rest of it flaps around. It has not been annoying enough (yet) to do anything about it, but perhaps Xero could use a more aggressive velcro on the heal strap on future models to remedy the problem. 5 stars was given despite the minor velcro issue, as the product performs well for its given purpose.
