VICTOR/VICTORIA REGION FREE BLU RAY IS A STUNNER
JULIE ANDREWS AT HER BEST IN GENDER BENDER MUSICAL COMEDYFIRST THIS REVIEW IS FOR THE AMERICAN BLU RAY IMPORT BLU RAY and I am happy to report that it is region free and WILL playback on UK blu ray players.Julie Andrews at her best (after Mary Poppins, Sound of Music and Throughly Modern Millie) as the Parisian stranded singer pretending to be a man pretending to be a woman in this remake of the German classic "Viktor Und Viktoria" (also remade in the 1940's as "First A Girl" starring Jesse Matthews in the Julie Andrews role).Picure quality is sumptious, detailed and rich with colours that pop out from the studio bound 1930's Paris sets and Henry Mancini's score is lush whilst the songs are catchy, whitty and fun.Lesley Anne Warren (almost) steals the entire movie as Norma (the poor white trash Bronx moll girlfiend of gangster James GarnerThe DTS HD Master 5.1 soundtrack is rich and involving with a wide sound stage - good ambiant effects and the score is pumped out from all areas of the viewing arena with accuracy - although there are occassional lip-sync issues (but only eagle eyed viewers on large 70 inch and upove TV's will notice and these do rectify themselvesIn the main, another winner from Warners

The Ultimate Gender Bender - Hugely Entertaining
This film is an absolute gem. It's entertaining, it's funny, the acting is great, the singing is great, and the music is great. And I'm not even usually a great fan of musicals. Or of everything Julie Andrews has done - I can't stand The Sound of Music. But maybe that's why this madcap gender bender centering around a woman posing as a man who pretends to be a woman works just fine for me. It's not that Victoria Grant (Julie Andrews) is that way inclined, it's just that she's desperate and needs a job. Any kind of a job. And so the trained classical soprano becomes a young Eastern European aristocrat, a celebrated female impersonator performing in exclusive clubs. With the rising fame of Miss Grant's male alter ego it becomes ever more difficult to keep up appearances and the arising complications make for much hilarity in the manner of a classic screwball comedy, and at times sheer farce. The laughs come thick and fast.Andrews' performance is flawless, both the acting and the singing. And her comedic timing is spot on. The entire supporting cast including such greats as Robert Preston, James Garner and John Rhys-Davies is excellent as is Lesley Ann Warren who is great fun as the dumb blonde of the piece. The music is by director Edward Blake's frequent collaborator Henry Mancini who won an Oscar for it. For a film from the time (it was released in 1982) it has stood up to the test of time amazingly well, probably helped by the 1930s setting and costumes. Highly recommended all round. The DVD I bought has very nice picture (2.35 : 1 widescreen format) and sound quality. English subtitles are available for those who may need them and the following rather nice extra features are included: - Feature Length Audio Commentary by Julie Andrews and Blake Edwards - Hidden Feature - Blake Edwards Interview - Trailer - Scene Selection - Cast & Crew (text on screen) - Awards (text on screen)

Lazy day film
I always loved Julie Andrews as a child even after being bullied into the Sound of Music as most children hate the thought of a musical, however I sand Doh a Deer for the next 20 years as the family party piece and I have to admit a few more.I first saw this movie many years ago and loved it, it gave me hope that my fellow man can look after someone who has fallen on hard times ad the main part of the story but overall its just a great watch.

the music is beautiful, and the plot as it should be
Ihad seen the film in the cinema many many years ago, and I must admit it is still as charming, fresh and very very pleasant. All actors are first class, the music is beautiful, and the plot as it should be, light and funny. Excellent purchase.
