MXL4000 Multi-Pattern FET Studio Condenser Microphone

I bought the  MXL 4000 Multi-Pattern FET Studio Condenser Microphone  to record acoustic voice and instrumental pieces as well as occasional spoken word recordings. It supports three patterns: figure eight, cardioid and omni. I found the figure eight and cardioid patterns very effective for isolation and selective sensitivity. The mic seems to have a flat response curve, so unwanted sounds missed by other microphones may be picked up perfectly on this one. I got very satisfactory results with minimal adjustment. The load required by the MXL 4000 to support 48v phantom power caused my TASCAM DR-40 Portable Digital Recorder to shut down (no harm done) when running on Lithium Ion batteries. But when I connected the mic through a PreSonus BlueTube DP vacuum tube preamp, feeding into the TASCAM DR-40 with DR-40 phantom power switched off, the mic sounded beautiful, faithfully reproducing a choral performance with piano, guitar and bass guitar.

This is a quality condenser microphone. It has 3 polarity patterns: cardioid, figure-8, and omni, and a -10dB switch, providing many options for your recording projects. It ships with a stand mount that isolates the mic from vibrations, a black foam wind screen, and a wooden storage case. It takes a standard XLR microphone cable, and like other condenser mics, requires phantom power through the mic cable.I've had great success using this mic for home recording projects. The mic is quite sensitive and the sound quality it produces is great for capturing the nuances of both voice and acoustic guitar. Having a great microphone is essential for any recording studio and this one fits the bill in every way.

This is the best mic for the money! I have a Sterling ST-69 and aside from the price this mic is ranked right up there. The quality and flexibility of the mic is great! And it has one advantage over the ST-69. The price! It is a multi-pattern mic! (OMNI, CARDIOD, ETC.) I like everything about it! Plus none of my clients have had any complaints. The vocals are crystal clear and the pick up is excellent. No latency problems whatsoever. All my artists look forward to performing on it. And I love it just as much! If you want a high quality mic without the studio price. This is definitely the one. Don't take any chances with those precious demo recordings. Hit 'em hard with crisp vocals from the MXL 4000! It's worth it's weight in platinum!

this is a great mic for vocal recording i have a in home studio and like to record as a hobby and with this mic i can hardly tell the difference in quality between my music and professionally done songs...i mean i'm not a professional artist nor do i have a professional studio set up..but to my ears it sounds great and at the price who can complain best mic i had yet.

I've had this Mic twice. It's a great Mic that records in a couple recording parameters around the Mic's face. And each adds to what it records, by capturing the best part of your sound, thickening it, purifying it, and amplifying it. Yet it never sounds like it's just being a bully, and forcing its sound down your throat. It's my favorite Mic.

WOW!!! THAT'S ALL I CAN SAY THIS MIC IS ABSOLUTLEY UNDER PRICED. I WOULD HAVE PAID DOUBLE. IT WORKS PERFECTLY AND I HAVE NO PROBLEMS WITH IT WHAT SO EVER.
