The very first page, after the contents, was set out wonderfully. An excellent list of common expressions that we use every day, like, "That's great!" (or superb, excellent, well done etc. ) I have done some Spanish covering beginners and intermediate courses, but not by reading. This was an instant success for me. Nice print, nice paper, good illustrations and took me straight into learning and improving with joy. When I look back to how we learnt French and German at school, wow, how I could have got on with this approach. I returned to learn languages later, but I find that Michel Thomas and Paul Noble are great, but, in the end, I need to read the language too, and learn the spellings too.

My child changed schools part way through year 8 and was recommended by head of languages to get both book 1 and 2 as they were then a year behind in Spanish. My child has been given a mentor to help work through these books to catch up on year 7 work. The grammar and vocabulary sections are good and will stand in good stead. The downside is that these books are meant to be used in a classroom setting alongside a DVD which we do not have (and are too expensive) and sections of the books refer to the DVDs; ask questions and refer to what the children have just watched on it.Overall a good reference book even if part of it is not usable by us.

Got for my daughter said it would help with her studies. Seems to be working.

Many years ago I used Caminos which I considered to be the best Spanish school text book. I now think Mra isup there with Caminos - text set out simply and clearly.

Used for several years now. Very good and we will keep using it until we find a better one possibly with more verb conjugation
