I had long been eyeing devices like these; that came with the storage built in; but was put off by the three figure prices. The 8Mobility Micro SD Card adaptor for Macbook was less than half the price, even factoring in the micro sd card to go in it.The attached photo explains my gear envy; I have been using a Sandisk 128Gb USB Thumb Drive as a backup to the SSD in my macbook pro. The USB drive works great but sticks out from my computer and that makes it easy to catch on things (especially on the way in and out of my bag.) The Micro SD Storage adaptor uses the SD Card socket on your Macbook Pro and with a Micro SD Card gives you the same experience - only without the bit sticking out.I bought aย SanDisk Ultra 128 GB ย to go with it; the micro SD Card slots into the adaptor; then you slot the reader into your computer. It does stick out; only only so you can get it back out again. It is stiff removing it; my fingernails buckled under it - but a credit card did it; both, undamaged.Plugged in the Drive mounts on your desktop with an SD Card Icon; when you restart your machine it sometimes complains it was removed; even though it wasn't, but it has remounted it fine.Performance is the most important thing - in my case compared to the speed of the thumb drive i was using. I bought a fast Sandisk Micro SD Card, the same brand as my Thumb Drive. The USB thumb drive is marginally quicker. Blackmagic disk speed test rates its at about 99Mb/s Read and 50 MB/s write. The USB3 drive managed 110 / 59 - I'm not sure in most normal usage you will notice any difference. For my use; backing up important files its ideal. If your macbook is running low on disk space or you want some space to backup to the 8Mobility adaptor gives you good performance, its very discreet; most importantly it won't snag on anything.
