Bright, responsive, and perfect for Apple Home
Picked up a Nanoleaf Essentials Matter B22 bulb to replace a previous non-matter bulb, and it’s been spot on from the moment I plugged it in. Joined Apple Home without a fuss and has stayed reliable. No random dropouts, no weird colour shifts, none of the usual smart-bulb drama. Brightness is solid, colours look clean, and the white temperature range is actually useful rather than just "for show”. I’ve been using it for warm evening lighting and brighter daylight scenes, and it handles both really well. I love using the adaptive mode in Apple Home to adjust the temperature to match the light outside. What I like most is how responsive it is. Changes from Apple Home or automations happen instantly, and Thread support keeps everything snappy. It feels like a proper, modern smart bulb rather than something clunky hanging off Wi-Fi. Also love that I can tie it into scenes or bedtime routines without thinking about it. It just behaves. If you’re in the Apple ecosystem and want a reliable Matter/Thread bulb that doesn’t cost a fortune, this one’s a no-brainer. I also joined it into Home Assistant with no issues at all.

A hub is required for full functionality.
They work perfectly with Apple homekit hub. (Homepod / Mini, Apple TV). Functionality will be limited if they work alone.

Awful reliability
I bought 8 of these initially for my downstairs. Setup with HomeKit was relatively easy, and once I had them all working I felt quite content. Occasionally I saw the connectivity would drop out, so updated all the bulbs to the latest software and ensured I did the same with my phone and HomePod minis. After a day or so, I noticed the bulbs would constantly go offline or take 20+ seconds to respond to a command. Using the Nanoleaf app, I could see that the bulbs were connecting to thread, disconnecting, switching to Bluetooth over and over. It wasn’t an issue with where the border router was placed as it was in the same room, and the bulbs were no greater than 1.5 meters apart (with most in one room and hallway being less than a meter away). I then added bulbs to my upstairs, and that’s where it all fell apart completely. My house is not large, and thread is designed to ensure that the network stays permanently connected even if one device goes offline. This did not happen. When one bulb went offline, all of them did - and it took either removing and completely factory resetting then to get everything working again. Once everything was working, after 20 minutes it would all happen again. I also use thread/matter devices from Eve and Aqara, placed at extreme ends of my house. These devices work perfectly and have never once lost connection. They respond instantly. This has demonstrated these these Nanoleaf bulbs are simply not fit for use. I’d understand it more if it was one faulty bulb, but I bought 14 of these and every single of them does it. If you are thinking of buying these, I beg you to reconsider. I’ve returned all of them, and will never buy from Nanoleaf again. Don’t let the more premium price tag fall you - these are simply awful products and you will have a nightmare using them. Instead I’ve begun using Wi-Fi bulbs from Meross, which respond instantly and have never once gone offline. Avoid these like the plague.

Nice light but app can be optimised.
IOS, no widgets. Must use Apple Home Kit widgets instead. Set up is fairly easy. Nice bright colours

Great Bulb, Worth the buy
This nano leaf bulb was a great purchase. It was extremely easy to setup, I used apple homekit and it was a scan, switch on and it linked extremely fast. The home kit options are great but limited. So I later used the official nano leaf app and there are a range of options, strobe effects etc. The bulb itself is nice quality and can be easily dimmed or set to 100% for a very bright light. The nano leaf bulb offers a range of apps to use along side the official app and allows me to use my Alexa, nfc tags (through shortcuts and apple homekit). This was definitely worth the money, especially at the price I got it for (1/4 of the price)

Affordable Smart Bulb for the Apple Ecosystem
I am deep in the Apple ecosystem, I have returned bulbs that no matter how long I tried, I couldn't get them to connect despite their claims that they are HomeKit ready. This one connected in less than a minute and has never missed a beat, highly recommend.

Decent Bulbs, but Questionable Longevity and Support
I really wanted to love these Nanoleaf bulbs, but my experience has been a mixed bag. One of the bulbs died after just a month of use, which was a major letdown. I reached out to Nanoleaf’s support, hoping for a quick fix or replacement, but the process was so tedious and frustrating that I eventually gave up. Between endless troubleshooting steps, long response times, and no clear resolution, it just wasn’t worth the hassle. I ended up writing off the dead bulb entirely, which is disappointing for a product at this price point. Another issue I’ve encountered is the slow connection time. Despite having the latest Apple devices set up as a hub, these bulbs take their sweet time to connect. I’ve tried resetting everything, but the responsiveness just isn’t where it should be. It’s a bit of a buzzkill when you’re trying to impress guests or just want your smart home to work smoothly without delays. I expected a more seamless experience, especially given the brand’s reputation and the premium pricing. On the positive side, when the bulbs are functioning, they do exactly what they’re supposed to. The color options are vibrant, the brightness is satisfactory, and they integrate well with smart home setups—when they eventually connect. If you’re lucky enough to have all the bulbs working as expected, they’re solid, but the overall experience is let down by poor reliability, slow connection, and lackluster customer support.

It’s not HomeKit compatible as advertised or mine is not working with my HomeKit i’ve tried doing tech support with Apple and we can’t get it to work. All the settings are right on my side for it to be working which are fairly simple to do not complex but will not work in Apple HomeKit.

Works great - appears most negative reviews are from people who don't understand how Matter over Thread works. If you're a Home Assistant nerd this will work no problem for you.

Everytime apple release an update the bulbs will get disconnected for few days.
