I bought this because I wanted a dimmer switch. Not a “smart” dimmer switch. Not something that needed Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, an app, an account, a firmware update, three permissions and my date of birth. A switch. One that turns the light on. One that turns the light off. And, if one is feeling adventurous, allows the light to exist somewhere in between. This Cloudy Bay dimmer does exactly that. It supports dimmable LED, CFL and incandescent bulbs, can be used as either a single-pole or 3-way switch, and is rated up to 600 watts. In other words, it is electrical technology from the glorious era when appliances were still expected to perform their principal function without first joining the Internet. There is a rocker switch. There is a slider. That is essentially the entire user interface. Rocker: light. Slider: amount of light. Marvelous. The slider is particularly satisfying because it gives you something increasingly rare in modern electronics: a physical indication of what you have actually told the device to do. If the slider is halfway down, the light is dim. If the slider is at the top, the light is bright. If the rocker is off, the light is off. No spinning circle. No “connecting…” No popup asking whether you would like to enable notifications from your dining-room wall. Installation was straightforward enough, although—as demonstrated in the photographs—I approached the task with the full complement of electrical equipment: Screwdriver. Pliers. Voltage tester. Ladder. Bear. The last item is frequently omitted from lesser DIY manuals. Once installed, the dimmer looks clean and unobtrusive, and the included wall plate means you do not immediately discover, halfway through the job, that you must drive back to the hardware store because somebody has decided the decorative plastic rectangle is sold separately. And it works very well. The lights turn on. They dim smoothly. They turn off. I appreciate that this sounds like faint praise, but in 2026 I consider any electrical product which performs all three operations without asking me to scan a QR code to be a minor triumph of civilisation. There is, admittedly, one mystery. Cloudy Bay. Why is a dimmer switch called Cloudy Bay? It sounds like somewhere one books a cottage for a long weekend. "Where are you going?" "Cloudy Bay." "Lovely. Coastal?" "No. It's behind the drywall." Still, compared with MUPOER and UFREE, Cloudy Bay sounds positively aristocratic. ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ Mister Twiggly P.S. I am pictured carrying out the installation personally. Any suggestion that I was merely sitting on the ladder while somebody else did the wiring is malicious and impossible to prove. P.P.S. Always turn off the circuit breaker before working on mains wiring. This is not cowardice. It is what separates the competent electrician from the briefly illuminated one.

My dining area did not have a dimmer switch with a five-bulb light fixture, which meant the lighting over the table was either super bright or not at all. My wife would actually unscrew some of the lightbulbs to alter the mood, which didn't look great After nine short years, I decided to do something about it and bought the Cloudy Bay in Wall Dimmer Switch. The instructions are clear, and with minimal electrical experience I was able to install the switch in only a few minutes. My only complaint was that the dimmer slider was all the way down, so I thought there was a problem when I turned the breaker back on and tried the switch the first time. After totally disassembling and rechecking everything, I realized it was just turned all the way down. So that was a little bit of hassle. Call it user error or whatever. I installed some candelabra style dimmable LED bulbs in cool white, and it looks amazing. Now we can have soft mood lighting for a nice dinner, or bright lights when working on school projects. There is a tiny delay in response time when using the slider, but nothing critical, and that was not a priority for me. We don't slide it that often, and when we do, the response time does not matter at all. This was a wish list item for years, and I would definitely buy the Cloudy Bay wall dimmer switch again.

Overall the Cloudy Bay wall dimmer was easy to install. It even had a tag for the wire that is needed for 3-way pole installation. For a first timer, the packaging and manual were quick and simple. In my opinion, here are some things to note. The dimmer itself is bulkier compared to my old one so make sure to measure the space! I barely had enough room otherwise it'd budge out and ruin the look. The faceplate and wallplate are fragile. Not to mention when packaged, both plates were snapped together already. When removing the plates, i had to use a flat head and gently insert between the grooves to pry the plates open - otherwise the front plates would block installion of the screws. Another peeve I have is the type of screw used. I personally recommend using cross star screws rather than single slit. With single slit, if you drill or fit in the screw and strip it - you have another issue to deal when you need the switch removed for replacement or inversion. For crossed screw, I believe it is harder to strip and therefore more easier to work with. Positives appeal. Easy installation. The manual was quick and the wire colors made it easy to tag function per wire. Simple and neat design. Dimmer function and the side gear to control maximum light intensity. This control can make sure the intensity is not too bright or low before altering the front slider. Nut caps were perfect when tying and connecting the wires. Easy to secure and fitted perfectly. Price is perfect and a great value. Don't need to buy a switch over $30 unless working with more complex wiring designs.

I was skeptical about this switch, considering the cost when comparing against others, I’ve never heard of cloudy bay.. but I took a chance on it and I was pleasantly surprised!! It does what is says it does. I’m using it with led lights and it is working like a champ.. the “fine” tuning is done with the small wheel that is hidden by the face plate so setting it correctly is a bit of a pain.. I recommend that you make sure your minimum dim setting is exactly how you want it before you put the face plate back on, or you will be removing it to readjust it later.. like others have mentioned, sometimes when you turn off the light in its lowest setting and then try to turn it back on, the led will not light back up, this is due to the fine tuning I mentioned.. simply turn it off, slide the dimmer position to the right a little more and then turn the switch back on. When making your fine tune adjustment, just raise the minimum dim setting a little and you should be fine, all in all it’s a great switch.. no flickering and when you turn off the switch, the light actually turns completely off ( not like other switches I have used) mine is on a single led fixture, other switches I’ve used from the box store flickered like crazy !! And cost 3x what this switch cost.. it’s a good buy, time will tell how long it holds up to daily use. For now, I’m completely satisfied.

I selected this switch because I liked the sleek and modern look of it .The old dimmer switch I had could not dim LED bulbs. Also my old switch was the round push-on type and it was necessary to reset the dimmer each time the light went on. Before I ordered the new switch I took apart my old one, just to see what I had inside the wall. My house is 60 years old and a previous owner had made a number of changes, some of which I appreciate (and some are kind of strange.) For instance, there are two breaker panels in this rather small house, one of them clearly newer than the other. So I checked out the old switch and saw that it was the old-fashioned two-wires-wrapped-around-two-screws type . I've replaced those before. There are pretty clear wiring instruction included .The new switch has a ground wire, which my old switch didn't. And the new switch came with wire nuts, which I'd never used before. I went online and watched a wire nut tutorial . Man, those things are brilliant. You, dear reader, may know all about wire nuts, and take them for granted , but I am kind of thrilled by the beauty of this deceptively simple idea. So, not wanting to die because of overconfidence, I turned off all the breakers on both breaker panels. I brought an LED lantern with me so I could see what I was doing.Since there was no ground wire in my wall I followed instructions and taped that newfangled ground wire on the switch to the metal box in the wall. Another thing I liked about the new switch is that the wires were all prepped, the wire sleeve having been cut but left in place on all of them.No need to strip wires-or even to have a wire stripper. One wire had a prominent tag on it which said that if that wire was not needed to leave the sleeve on. I did not need that wire and I left the sleeve on. This made it unnecessary for me to cover what would have been bare wire with electrical tape. About those clever little wire nuts: One of the existing wires in the wall had a much longer stripped part than the (new) switch wires had. At first attempt the wire nut trick wasn't working on this set of wires. Then I remembered that the stripped parts of the two wires I was joining were supposed to be the same length. So I trimmed the longer wire and tried it again and this time it worked beautifully. Again following the instructions I turned on the power and tested the new switch to see that it dimmed properly before closing everything up. It did, so that was it. The installation was fairly quick , only took a few minutes really .Very happy with the new switch and all that was provided.

I installed these as part of a total replacement of all the outlets and switches after we did a little facelift on the house last year, in October to be exact. The switches these replaced, all Lutron, had all worked well, and I believe were original to the home, built in the late 1980s, although they we occasionally had issues with some bulbs flickering. These seemed a great value, and had decent reviews, so I went all in, and installed roughly fifty of them. They work well - though I have a few complaints over the last year. The dimmer functionality works very well, though they do occasionally flicker, if they are dimmed just short of full brightness, or at the dimmest setting. There is an adjustment to correct flicker at the dimmest setting, but nothing to adjust for flicker occurring near the top. It doesn't happen with most of them, just a handful, so maybe it's just bum switches. My biggest complaint though is that we have had a number of them crack. Of the sixty, this has happened to five of them now, in different locations, and without any clear reason (they weren't hit or anything). I've attached a picture of one that I just replaced. I've never had this happen with other switches - it isn't a lot of them, but a pain to have to replace "new switches" after just a year. Buyer beware.
