Simple and effective. Yes, you can make your own very easily and cheaply, but you would have to buy a bunch of different colors of 550 cord to make the ones in this package, which would be a higher initial cost. To me, it was worth the small amount of money for the convenience and time saving. These were inexpensive and I received them in a couple of days. What's not to like? I am using them to extend the handle on some very compact, 3-D printed utility blade holders, for which this is perfect. The utility blade holders are essentially a cover of printed plastic, not much bigger than the blade. The blade slides in and out of the cover in a channel when you need to use it to cut open packages or whatever, which is what my pocket knife does 95% of the time. This allows me to have a quick, easy access blade for opening things, but it doesn't dull my pocket knife so it is sharp for the next time I need a real knife. Because the utility blade holder is so small, I added one of these lanyards to the lanyard hole, which brought it from a 2-finger grip to a 4-finger grip, with very little weight penalty or extra bulk. This allows greater control of the blade and makes it safer to use.

I'm giving this 3 stars. It is exactly what I was looking for; however, I only received 6 items in the package and it's supposed to be 10 items. I will return the unopened package and purchase again hoping I get sent 10 items this time.
