they're night vision goggles alright
Just so everyone reading this review knows... ATN's photos are almost always doctored. The guys on AR15.com had a thread going for fake night vision shots and ATN's entire catalog of shots were on display. From the cougar pic to the ship one, they are all stock images converted to black and white, then covered by a green filter. When it comes to night vision they take old russian or us military reject tubes and put them in a plastic housing and charge you full price for them. You'll notice that they only tell you what tubes they use on their gen3P line (because they made a point to put pinnacle in those) then charge you and extra few hundred to couple thousand for the better tubes. For instance... you can pick up some gen3 auto gated pinnacle tubed pvs7b goggles for $3199.00 here on amazon... the pvs7 gen3 pinnacle tubed goggles from ATN? $4000... even here on amazon (msrp is 4100).Hell the video on this very item's page is doctored! They're using a camera filter known as a day to night filter. It makes the brightest day seem like a full moonlit night. Then they just apply a green filter over the night vision shots in post. You know how I can tell? There's ZERO distortion or flicker or black spots or bloom or pixelation or snow in any of the night vision shots. Looking through all but the top night vision goggles is like looking at a green snowy tv channel where you can see most of the image but there are still spots of light and dark randomly popping in and out of the screen. This video has NONE of that. Its fake.Undoctored pic through gen 3 night vision[...]
