Works as a UPS, but the smell is terrible
I purchased the APC Back-UPS 950VA this for use in a home office as a power backup for our NAS.Ordering, delivery and setup were simple and the UPS was recognised by the UPS and worked as expected to shut down the NAS gracefully when the power is removed - so far so good everything is as expected and easier to setup than I have braced myself for (5 stars).However the unit had a strong and acrid smell when removed from the packaging. I initially thought that this would be a temporary problem that would go away after a couple of days but the opposite proved to be the case, and after a week I found myself having a sore throat from the acrid smell coming from the unit. I contacted the manufacturer who were very easy to deal with and a replacement unit was supplied which unfortunately had the same problem.So whilst I can say the UPS works perfectly, I would only recommend it to be installed into a room that is not normally occupied. As it's marketed for use in SOHO applications, and considering my experience then I deducted 3 stars as I do not feel that the units I received should be used in a home office environment without the occupants suffering as a result.
