Just Getting Started

Don't give many 5 stars but this movie which you can comfortably watch with the whole family is one.Tommy Lee and Morgan are 2 of my favorite actors with a really good supporting cast.It also is a very positive movie regarding us seniors.

Two of the best actors of their era -- and ours -- now live in a retirement village called "Palm Springs." Each is used to getting whatever he wants -- whether it be a better chess game than any opponent, a game of golf ... or the pretty woman who just walked into the room. The rivalries start pretty quickly, Tommy Lee Jones and Morgan Freeman are two of our best older actors who manage to keep us smiling, regardless of the "tough" guy roles they may be playing at a given moment, and never surprise us with their intellect, the love for fine arts, or the aesthetic. What does surprise us is when one of them discloses that he worked for the FBI, and later, the other shared the secret that he's being protected by withness protection. The adventure begins -- a guy is trying to shoot at them, for some reason. They don't run away, scared, as would most of us. They instead choose to track down this mysterious person and find out why someone would ever want to shoot at them. They'll find out, resolve the situation, go back to "Palm Springs," resume with their rivalries ... and all the while, will be those "old guys" who we all love.

Cute movie, had some seriously funny spots but somewhat predictable story-line. Not much 'surprise' to any of it, but still fun to watch. Tommy Lee Jones and Morgan Freeman are two of my favorite actors and seeing them together with Rene Russo tossed in is a treat.

Morgan Freeman and Tommy Lee Jones and Rene Russo as well as the rest of the cast are really funny. It's initially about a rivalry between two older men of a retirement community trying to outdo one another seemingly for the affection of 3 horny women their age that live there. They both have ulterior hidden motives and eventually become friends as they get acquainted with Rene Russo's character. All 3 show you're never too old to party and carouse. The movie then takes a turn to action as they have to rescue RR from her kidnapper.I have a feeling that most young people just won't get this movie. Lots of the comedy comes from the ideas of fighting the aging stereotypes and isn't a world most young people will get. The cast has some great support characters too who keep the laughs going. The acting between stars and support characters all are great as they are all pros. (Having aged a bit myself), I got a kick out of this movie. It got a little slow at times and I deducted a star for that. But otherwise a good funny movie that was worth watching.

Really enjoyed this movie. When the only thing out there is blood, killing, sex and stuff that a family cannot watch together - this movie just makes you laugh as we could all watch it together

Well, it's not the deepest of movies. Knowing that by reading some reviews I thought it was good entertainment to clean house and do dishes by, like a good song that floats by as you do your work. Watching a Christmas movie in hot July of good actors in a silly movie where you know nothing really bad will happen doesn't tax your brain or nerves. It was nice to see Tommy Lee Jones, always a serious presence, even in this movie, come up with some joyful smiles. And, it was nice to see the supporting cast, Elizabeth Ashley, the late Glenne Headly, and others. If there are complaints about it not being a Oscar-winning script then maybe that's the fault of the movie companies that bank on more youthful cast members for their productions nowadays. At any rate I liked seeing Morgan Freeman and Jones and Russo who have had their day in the sun, visit with us once again in this spoof of a movie. 'Hey, Bob Hope's house should be there!'

I have no idea what the concept behind making this movie was. But I see many reviews saying the viewer has to be older to like it. I'm 68, which I and everyone else thinks of as older, and I have no clue why I am supposed to be amused. To my mind, it's a bunch of actors, mostly older than me, who have forgotten their profession and the standards that made them great at one time. I couldn't finish the movie.

I loved this feel good movie. The interaction of the characters worked well. Plus, how could you not enjoy a movie with Morgan Freeman and Tommy Lee Jones in it.

Not as good as I hoped it would be with Freedman and Tommy Lee both who I love.
