I love it!
I bought this rice cooker a couple of years ago because I was having trouble cooking rice on our stove; even on the lowest setting, the water always bubbled out from under the lid. I wanted a small rice cooker, because I usually cook only 1 or 2 cups. I bought this model after reading reviews on Amazon, and I've been meaning to return the favor by writing my own review--but I forgot until I decided to look at rice cookers for my college daughter, who is about to move into her first apartment. I highly recommend this rice cooker!!! I've never used another model, so I have no basis of comparison, but I am completely in love with this one. I always cook brown rice, and it cooks perfectly every time. At first I measured the water separately (2 cups of water per cup of rice) because I wasn't sure if I could trust the measurement markings on the inside of the inner compartment, but I have gradually realized that the markings are trustworthy and take into account the volume of the rice that I've already added to the compartment. The warmer works perfectly, too; the rice is always hot and never dried out (though I have never kept it in the warmer for very long). A few times I've had to add a little extra water after the rice was done but still seemed a bit crunchy (perhaps because of careless measuring on my part), and that process also worked flawlessly. Although the rice doesn't stick to the bottom (I always add a some olive oil and salt at the beginning), it does get a bit browner at the bottom. However, that isn't a problem at all once you mix up the rice in a bowl. I love being able to start the rice and then make the rest of the dinner without having to babysit the rice. I've even started the rice and then gone out to walk the dog--and come home to the heavenly smell of cooking rice (except for that time I plugged it in but forgot to turn it on). I used to hesitate to make a rice dish because of the 45 minutes needed to cook the rice--but now I can multitask, and it doesn't seem overwhelming at all. The only feature that I don't like is that you have to unplug the rice cooker to turn it off--but that's not a big deal. You also have to remember to clean out the little water drain cup on the side, or else it gets pretty nasty after a while.

After 7 years of weekly use it still makes great rice!
This is what I said in 2007:I have owned this exact model for over 3 years. I am constantly making rice as I am a thai chef and it does a wonderful job with jasmine rice. It will probably cook as well for any other long grain rice. I have read other reviews from people who tried to use different kinds of rice in this rice cooker. Not all rice are to be cooked the same. I think that this rice cooker was intended for more traditional long grain rice. I would never try to use my Thai sticky rice in this machine...it would never work. So, if you like long grain white rice this machine is great. The nonstick cooking insert makes cleanup easy and I have never had burnt rice. The cooking instructions are simple...put in how many cups of rice you want to cook and then fill the pot with water up to the line that correpsonds to how many cups you put in. You should have about 2 inches of water above the rice. If you did burn your rice you probably didn't put in enough water. Enjoy.Update......four years later in 2011:Last night I put my trusty Zojirushi away and thought after having it for 7 years now....what a great little machine it is. So I came back to update my review. I am amazed at how reliable this little gizmo is. It always gives me the best cooked rice compared to other rice cookers. Let me just say that i use this machine at least once if not twice weekly and it has never failed me. I don't know how many more years I can get out of this little machine...but I know that when it does die...I'll buy another one from the Zojirushi company. I wish my other appliances were so dependable.

It’s 2024. I bought this in 2006 and use it constantly
This is the best appliance I’ve ever bought. I’ve used it at least weekly for almost 20 years. Some tips:- Use it for white rice.- Wash. Your. Rice. In the bowl the rice will cook in.- Use the knuckle measurement technique for water level.- When done serving, the rice will remain warm for about 2-3 hours even while unplugged.- Wipe the top inside down immediately after use. That’s about it. This model is worth buying, even used.

Cooks decently, but cleaning somewhat of a hassle
I used my Zojirushi for over a year, and while it performed decently in that time, I was never overly thrilled with it and I just replaced it with a simpler, old fashioned steamer with a removable glass lid.My family eats rice very frequently and we used the steamer about five times a week. The unit works well enough- we usually cook jasmine and occasionally basmati. When cooking smaller amounts (two or three uncooked cups), the rice at the bottom would come out crispy and browned. I was usually able to avoid that by unplugging the unit immediately after the unit switched from "cook" to "warm" (or even sometimes just before). But you have to be around and pay attention to do that, which defeats one of the main reasons to have a rice steamer to begin with.My main issues with the unit are as follows:1) The inside top of the unit needs to be wiped down immediately after use otherwise the starchy residue would dry on, at which point it was difficult to clean because the lid does not remove.2) There is an inner lip between the rice pot and the exterior of the unit which catches rice and is inconvenient to clean- something to consider if you have kids who are old enough to serve themselves, but not old enough to avoid dropping rice as they do so.3) The front latch mechanism broke after about six months. I was able to order replacement parts for like $2 (for the latch and spring) which was fine, but it is a plastic moving part that failed. And keeping the spring properly positioned while attaching the new latch was pretty tricky, but I was finally able to do so after a few attempts.I just replaced it with a simpler steamer with a stainless steel pot (trying to get away from the non-stick in general these days... a rice steamer really doesn't need it) and a removable glass lid. I perfer that arrangment - easier to clean and no moving parts to worry about breaking.

Tasty rice, Japanese quality
Easy rice cooker. No special features means nothing to go wrong.

Best rice cooker for the money
Cooks the perfect rice. Got it on a great sale for about $70-$75 bucks and was definitely worth it. Make sure to let your rice steam for about 15 mins after its done cooking, makes it even better.

Very, very happy!
I was cooking using a smaller rice cooker but ever since starting a new job and having less time to cook I needed a bigger size. I chose this one because I didn't need any extra features and preferred a simple cooker that was inexpensive. This does a great job (cooks better than a small size one) and my husband agrees it was a good investment!! Very, very happy!

good rice cooker but ....
This rice cooker cooks tasty rice but i when i unpacked it and remove the electrical cord at the bottom, the plastic snap that holds the cord broke. I was so disappointed. Also the holder of the spoon keeps falling off each time you put back or take the spoon. The positive side is I find that this cooker cooks rice very well- good texture and taste.

It works as described
I bought it for my elderly mother who finds the compurized rice cookers too complicated to use. This rice cooker has only one button to cook rice (white rice only)The rice cooked in this cooker is not as tasty as the one prepared in computerized/pressurized cookers but the simplicity wins for someone who cannot handle the complicated menu interface.
