Modern Advancements in Long Range Shooting is a book series by Bryan Litz which documents the ongoing R&D taking place in the Applied Ballistics laboratory. Many topics are covered in this first Volume, including the effects of twist rate on muzzle velocity, BC (supersonic and transonic), precision, even spin rate decay for various rifling profiles is tested experimentally. Other sections detail the evolution of modern rifle, bullet, and optic design. Results from extensive chronograph testing are presented which show the strengths and weaknesses of available commercial chronographs. High tech instrumentation such as laser rangefinders and wind measurement devices are explained in detail by contributing author Nick Vitalbo. The series is heavily based in experimental ballistics, and takes a sort of 'mythbusters' approach to many of the questions and problems faced by modern long range shooters. In today’s world of marketing hype and movie magic, Applied Ballistics continues to explore long range shooting using the scientific method, and publishes the results in a non-biased way that's easily understood by the layman. Future volumes are planned to cover the ongoing testing and evaluation activities of Applied Ballistics. Review: Most useful out of Litz's books - I pretty much made at least 1 highlight per chapter as I found the bulk of the content to be insightful. I now understand why the 6.xx mm cartridges are so popular in PRS and why the Army is switching to SIG 277 Fury / 6.8x51 for its new XM7/XM250s. The discussion on BCs and the ballistic solver / custom drag models is worth the price of the book itself. Granted it sounds like Litz is trying to sell you on Applied Ballistics but there's a lot of sound theory into why the CDMs will give you a more accurate solution especially at the transonic speed range and beyond. He does sound like he's trying to sell you on Berger bullets but again he goes into detail on why they're so consistent. Overall if you can only afford or only want to buy 1 of his books, this would be the one. Vol 2 is less interesting as it caters to mainly those that handload and want to bust some myths (deburring flash holes, fill ratio, etc) or are deep into rimfire. Review: very interesting - I don’t know what I was expecting this to be, but I was very impressed with the information and level of detail! I will probably re read it soon just to help absorb all of the information 1

After reading Applied Long Range ballistics in a week and ...
After reading Applied Long Range ballistics in a week and loving every second pf it, my daughter bought me this boo and while it refers back to much of what is in the first book (just a little bit of cheating) it is still offers much valuable information. I wish it was 100 unique but i suppose i your going to cover the same subject twice it isn't reasonable to expect it to be 100 unique. that being said, the information presented is rock solid and the book is well worth the money. I plan on getting the other volumes.

Excellent read
This was a very readable book. I've ordered the next in the list of books by this author. The information is useful for anyone interested in learning more about the factors necessary for accuracy and precision in the shooting sports. The chapter on chronographs was particularly well done.

Brian is Brilliant
Great read and reference. I have his works highlighted and bookmarked throughout because of the relevance and insight of these works. If you like to know the theory or just to shoot long range these are great resources.

Learning a Craft.
While not exactly for the "faint of heart", for the average shooter. Bryan's books can make a very complex science understood by a layperson. His books have increased my knowledge of ballistics 100 fold. Much more than I received in the Marine Corps. Which was not much more than "point and squeeze ", not to say I didn't learn about marksmanship. Now I understand more of the why?

Achetez le livre
J'Ai acheté le format kindle et je suis plus ou moins satisfait. J'ai toute la suite de livre de Brian Litz, et je vais commander ce livre en format standard. Beaucoup d'information comme la stabilisation du boulet à courte distance.
