Your Growing Body and Remarkable Reproductive System (Your Brilliant Body!)

Perfect for my science minded 8 year old to start to learn about puberty and her changing body. It was scientific, factual and good information for 8-10 year old. I have struggled to talk to her about the changes her body will go through with puberty but for her and her love of facts this was a great bridge between knowledge and understanding. I knew I chose the right book when the first page says "humans are mammals and just like mammals..." national geographic books are her favorite and she instantly connected live births and breast feeding with other mammals. It did mention how a baby is created scientifically without discussing intercourse which at 8 I feel is a good balance. It has pages on both female and Male puberty changes and shows visuals of both sexual organ systems without jumping into sex at all.

I wish the book had been longer. He read it in 2 days.

This book in the Your Brilliant Body series covers growth and development from the very beginning (sperm and egg) through infancy, childhood and puberty. The illustrations and facts combine to offer the reader a well balanced and easily understood explanation of what's happened to them and what's to come. Like others in the series, it's easy to understand, well illustrated and will allow young readers to assimilate important information without making them skittish. It does a nice job of covering the important stuff without skimping and the sidebar information is a nice enhancement to learning. It's definitely a worthy book for school and public libraries to own.
